A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM URGING THE GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA
TO CALL A SPECIAL SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE
FOR THE PURPOSE OF ENACTING TOUGHER NARCOTIC
CONTROL LEGISLATION TO HALT THE TRAFFIC IN
NARCOTICS.
WHEREAS, the illegal sale and use of narcotics has
become the most serious problem facing the people of the State
of California, and
WHEREAS, this traffic in living death has inflicted
much suffering on its unfortunate victims, as well as causing
millions of dollars in property loss due to thefts and other
crimes, and
WHEREAS, Californiats proximity to the Mexican border
makes the problem in our State particularly serious, and
WHEREAS, Federal, State, and local law enforcement
officials have long advocated enactment of tougher narcotic
control legislation in California, and
WHEREAS, it is vital to the welfare of the people
of our State of California that this serious problem be
placed on special call of the Legislature this year,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Anaheim that it does hereby request that
Governor Edmund G. Brown accept his Constitutional res-
ponsibility to the people of the State of California by using
his authority to call a Special Session of the Legislature
this year, for the purpose of enacting tougher narcotic con-
trol legislation to halt the traffic which now plagues our
State.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and
she is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified
copy of this Resolution to Governor Edmund G. Brown.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and signed by
me this 1st day of March, 1960.
