Broadway Anaheim, CA 92805 DATE/TIME February 10, 2025 4:30 p.m. CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on February 6, 2025; the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Linda Newby at 4:35 p.m. PRESENT: Rose Chen, Jackie Filbeck, Linda Newby, Elia Renteria-Garcia ABSENT: Michelle Dang STAFF: Alessandra Gonzalez — Communications Specialist II, Jennifer Foxx — Management Assistant II I. INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The January sale made $253.60; the next sale is February 21, 2025. The Friends have purchased their table for the APL Foundation Mystery Author's Luncheon. They are always looking for new members, membership prices are $5.00 annually or $100.00 for a lifetime membership. B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: In 2024 they volunteered 3,805 hours, surpassing last year's total. FOCAL is comprised of a small hard-working group of women. They have purchased their table for the APL Foundation Mystery Author's Luncheon and are looking forward to helping raise funds for Anaheim Public Library. The next Flash Sale is February 14-15, 2025. C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Mystery Author's Luncheon is Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the Sheraton Park Hotel. D. COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 13, 2025, MEETING: The minutes were approved as presented. III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None. IV. NEW BUSINESS: A. AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES AT ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY: New communication devices have been introduced at the Library as part of the Accessibility Initiative to better serve our Deaf/Hard of Hearing patrons. Alessandra recognized the Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim, Anaheim Public Library Foundation, Rotary Club of Anaheim, and the Friends of the Anaheim Public Library for funding the communication devices, and collectively the APL Accessibility Initiative. In addition, APL is now offering American Sign Language Classes through the application ASLdeafined. Anaheim is the first public library in California to offer this service. LIBRARY BOARD AD IN ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION MYSTERY AUTHOR'S LUNCHEON PROGRAM: The Library Board Members will sponsor the inside front cover of the program. V. INFORMATION A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: None. B. BUDGET: Planning for the 2025/26 Fiscal Year budget continues. VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. STATISTICS: None. B. ACTIVITY REPORTS: None. C. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: Linda recognized Lisa Sternberg for the Pancakes and Pajamas event at the East Anaheim Branch Library. VII. BOARD ITEMS MEMBER JACKIE FILBECK: Attended the City Council recognition of the Creative Writing Contest winners and appreciates that the students are recognized in this way. Jackie noted that Jefferson Elementary School was appreciative of the Korean language book donation. MEMBER ELIA RENTERIA-GARCIA: Appreciated the fast response in fixing the link to the online calendar as she is posting library events on her social media accounts. VICE CHAIR ROSE CHEN: Thanked staff for responding quickly to the request to have the exterior of Haskett Branch Library cleaned. CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Recognized the previously awarded grant for $300,000 by Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk -Silva for the Haskett Makerspace. She also suggested using flyers advertising upcoming programs to wrap the hold books in. VIII. MISCELLANEOUS A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be March 10, 2025, at the Central Library. B.
