Good morning, City Council members . I'm here today to addres s the events of las t week's protest near Angel Stadium. As a peaceful protes ter, I was dis turbed by
Anaheim PD's actions , which included declaring an unlawful as s embly while we remained in front of the s tadium.
Our march through the s treets led to being kettled, and I witnes s ed an officer point a weapon loaded with rubber bullets at families , including children, in an alley near
Katella Avenue. This aggres s ive res pons e created a dangerous s ituation for residents and vis itors alike. Our attempt to march towards Dis neyland was met with
threats of arres t for anyone blocking the entrances , effectively s hutting down our ability to protest.
I urge this council to take immediate action to protect the rights of Anaheim residents to peacefully assemble. I as k that you launch an independent inves tigation into
the Anaheim PD's handling of las t week's protes t and implement policy changes to ensure that future protes ts are managed in a way that res pects our cons titutional
rights . We have a right to expres s our views without s uch heavy-handed tactics .
