Good Evening Madame Mayor, City Council members, and City Staff, My name is Alae ,and I am a concerned c ivilian.Today, I am res pectfully requesting that the City of Anaheim make an active effort to organize mental health resourc es for the immigrant population in the city. Many Anaheim residents live in fear of going to work, attending social functions , or even s hopping for bas ic necessities due to the possibility of unexpected enforcement actions. The mental toll of having to consider your every m ove is incredibly anxiety inducing, especially for residents who have families to feed, rent to pay, and bus inesses to run. Personally, having s poken to friends and other loved ones who are at risk of losing their livelihood, I notice the hesitation in their voic es before they can even articulate the pain they are in. Due to the lack of trust in government as a result of the c urrent ICE raids , it makes perfec t sense why many are choosing to suffer in silence. In the 21st century, in the land of the free, and in the land of opportunity, nobody should be subjected to live in survival mode. Council members can host distric t or city wide events to bring joy and resources to the community. Examples would be legal clinics to educate residents on their rights or m ental health c linics for residents who are feeling helpless. It could even be something as simple as a cross-cultural festival, or community healing circles . I implore you, as a c ivilian witnessing this mental crisis 2nd hand, please collaborate with medical professionals, Nonprofits s uc h as Oc apica, and other Orange County organizations who specialize in mental health, to bring as much relief as possible to our residents . I believe that right now, more than ever, we need to know its okay to enjoy our lives during these scary times. Joy is a hum an right and it should be accessible no matter what your legal status is. Thank you.
