Library 2025/06/09ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES MEETING LOCATION Central Library 500 W. Broadway Anaheim, CA 92805 DATE/TIME June 9, 2025 4:30 p.m. CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on June 4, 2025; the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Linda Newby at 4:32 p.m. PRESENT: Rose Chen, Jackie Filbeck, Linda Newby, Elia Renteria-Garcia STAFF: Joe Purtell — Library Services Manager, Jennifer Foxx - Management Assistant II I. INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The April sale made $501.46 and the May sale made $270.25. The July sale will be a two-day sale. The Friends are applying for funding to have bookstore space at Central Library. They continue to look for ways to recruit new members. The Friends entered into agreements to sell donated books online that cannot be added to the Library's collection. They are proud to sponsor any of the Summer Reading programs being offered at APL. B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: They will be presenting Board candidates at their July meeting. The election for officers will be held at the September 18, 2025, meeting. In June, they will be awarding two $500 scholarships to Canyon Hills Branch Library volunteers from Canyon High School. They are very honored to do this for the community, and it is the inspiration for their hard work. The next Flash Sale is July 17th & 18th in the multi -purpose room and will feature books and jigsaw puzzles. C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The Foundation Board meetings are moving to Applebee's at Lincoln and State College at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of the Month. They are actively recruiting new members. The 29th Annual Mystery Author's Luncheon will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Adam Sikes will be the moderator. D. COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE APRIL 14, 2025, MEETING: The minutes were approved as presented. III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None. IV. NEW BUSINESS: A. ACCESSIBILTY INITIATIVE UPDATE: The Library recently purchased additional materials in Braille. Anaheim Public Library Board Meeting June 9, 2025 Page 2 B. Anaheim Public Library Report to City Council on the condition of the libraries for Fiscal Year 2024/25 per ARTICLE IX. APPOINTIVE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS, Section 908: The Library Board will consider what the report should focus on for this fiscal year. C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY COLLECTION POLICY: Joe presented an updated Collection Policy to reflect the current statement requirements from the California State Library. RECOMMENDATION: That the Library Board approve the Anaheim Public Library Collection Policy as presented. M/S JF/ER 4 ayes. V. INFORMATION A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: • The Library is thankful to the Foundation for approving over $75,000 in funding for Fiscal Year 2025/26. The funding will be used for programming for children, teens, adults, and older adults, as well as cultural programming, eBooks, STEAM Kits, the Haskett Makerspace, and more. • The APT, Community Survey was launched on June 2, 2025, in conjunction with the Summer Reading Program. B. BUDGET: The City Council is currently conducting Budget Workshops with adoption planned for the June 17, 2025, meeting. VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. STATISTICS: None. B. ACTIVITY REPORTS: None. C. MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF SUPPORT/CERTIFICATE BY BOARD MEMBERS: None. VII. BOARD ITEMS MEMBER JACKIE FILBECK: Facilitated a meeting with herself, AESD Superintendent, marketing staff, and Audrey scheduled for June 11, 2025, to discuss the marketing of the APT, survey and other Library services. MEMBER ELIA RENTERIA-GARCIA: None. VICE CHAIR ROSE CHEN: Appreciates Library staff. CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Impressed by the statistics and reports that the Library provides each month.
