A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION
OF AN AGREEMENT TO BE MADE AND ENTERED INTO WITH
THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, DIVISION OF
HIGHWAYS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, RELATING TO
THAT PORTION OF STATE ROUTE VII- ORA -17L -ANA
WHICH EXTENDS THROUGH THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM.
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works, Division of
Highways of the State of California, is constructing a freeway,
a portion of which extends through the city limits of the City
of Anaheim, known and designated as Santa Ana Freeway Route
VII Ora -17). -Ana; and
WHEREAS, heretofore, to wit, on the 5th day of April,
1955, the City Council adopted its Resolution No. 2706 request-
ing the Department of Public Works, Division of Highways of
the State of California to review the design and specifications
of that section of the Santa Ana Freeway between Euclid Avenue
and Vermont Street within the city limits of the City of
Anaheim and that section of the Santa Ana Freeway between
Vermont Street and Harbor Boulevard in county territory for the
purpose of determining the advisability and necessity of pro-
viding additional access to the Santa Ana Freeway, to facilitate
the flow of traffic and to avoid traffic congestion and bottle-
necks in said area; and
WHEREAS, the City Council did in said resolution
recommend: (1) A four -lane overpass at Ball Road in place of
the proposed two -lane structure; (2) A right -hand turn in place
of the left -hand turn at the easterly end of the overpass for
traffic crossing the freeway and proceeding northbound on the
freeway; (3) Elimination of the connection between the Front-
age Road on the south side of Bali Road and the southbound
traffic lane of the freeway to avoid mixing of freeway traffic
with Frontage Road traffic between Ball Road and Harbor Boule-
vard; (Li.) Temporary traffic signals at Santa Ana Street and
the freeway; and (5) One or more additional off -ramps between
Euclid Avenue and South Street from the southbound traffic
lane of the freeway to allow better access to the southwest
area of the City of Anaheim; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works, Division of
Highways, has approved the recommendation for a four -lane
bridge to be built across the freeway on Ball Road and ap-
proved the recommendation for deleting the connection between
the Frontage Road on the south side of Ball Road and the south-
bound traffic lane of the freeway, subject to the approval of
such deletion by the County Board of Supervisors, and has
agreed to investigate the necessity for installing temporary
signals at Santa Ana Street and the freeway, aid has further
agreed to construct an additional off -ramp from the freeway
at Lincoln Avenue, if required by traffic; and
WHEREAS, said Department of Public Works, Division
of Highways, has requested the City to approve the Freeway
Agreement with the above mentioned changes approved by the
Division of Highways, in order that the construction thereof
can proceed; and

WHEREAS, the City Council does find and determine
that the changes approved by the Department of Public Works,
Division of Highways will greatly facilitate the flow of
traffic and considerably relieve the congestion of traffic
within said area; and that to avoid delay in the construe
tion and completion of said freeway, said agreement should
be approved in the form recommended by the said Division of
Highways.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Anaheim that the agreement submitted by the
Department of Public Works, Division of Highways, relating
to and affecting the Santa Ana Freeway Route VII Ora -174. -Ana,
with the changes recommended by said Division of Highways as
hereinabove set forth, be and the same is hereby approved,
and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be, and they are hereby,
authorized and directed to execute said agreement for and on
behalf of the City of Anaheim.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Adminis-
trator be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to
consult with the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange
and urge them to concur in the deletion of the connection
between the Frontage Road on the south side of Ball Road and
the southbound traffic lane of the freeway, to avoid mixing
of freeway traffic with Frontage Road traffic between Ball
Road and Harbor Boulevard.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is signed and approved by
me this 31st day of May, 1955.
