To all Anaheim Planning Commission Staff,
I am writing to you in opposition of this Project. I am opposing this project for the same reason that I
opposed Deer Canyon Project. SAFETY! I live right behind the Festival shopping center and as you
know this is a high Fire Danger risk zone. By your own findings for the Deer Canyon Project, it was
already stated to take about 3 hours to evacuate in a fire emergency. Even before adding all the
additional vehicles on the road that this project would create. Now add in the Santa Ana Wind
conditions that we experience every fall. When the wind is rushing through the canyon at 40-50 mph
and there is a fire (which by the way there is a fire that breaks out every single time we have these
winds) that creates an serious threat to life and property. With an already ridiculous 3 hour evacuation
time you want to add another roughly 1000 cars to this already unacceptable evacuation time. This is
reckless and dangerous. This is another Lahaina in the making, and will cause people to die in their
car while trying to evacuate in a gridlocked area. I know the Fire Department is trying to mitigate the
issue with the "know your way" program and talking about co ordinated evacuations. These simply
are not enough. There simply is not enough infrastructure to evacuate the area in a reasonable time
frame. Until there are significant improvements to the evacuation routes for this area, no new
residences should be added to this area. I lived in this area since 1986, I have seen more and more
housing come into this area with little to no changes to the 91 freeway. People trying to avoid the
traffic jam on the 91, fill our streets trying to get around as many cars as possible. Especially on
Thursdays, Fridays or Holidays the main roads become traffic jams. Add the winds and fire and you
have a recipe for disaster. Think about what happened in The Palisades and Eaton fires and how
quickly the fire moved, only difference between them and us is they had better routes to evacuate.
When the Fire is fanned by these winds it is uncontrollable, the fire men do their best, but they can
only do so much. I beg of you, please do not recommend this project to be built! If you have any
questions, feel free to reach out to me. See you next week at the meeting.
