Dear Mayor and City Council, I am writing to expres s my oppos ition to the propos ed Fes tival Center Project due to public safety and evacuation is s ues that s till remain. Thes e s ame concerns were brought up by concerned res idents as well as the council members while discus s ing the previously propos ed development in deer canyon and NOTHING has changed!! This area is located in a very high fire hazard s everity zone. I have seen no evidence of the city providing improved evacuation s afety for exis ting res idents , not to mention the additional res idents this project would add right in the heart of previously gridlocked areas of evacuation. Public s afety mus t be addres s ed and res olved before additional dens ity is even cons idered! We have been homeowners in Anaheim Hills s ince 1999 and love it here. Over the years we have experienced s everal wildfires , faced mandatory evacuations , and experienced gridlock as s o many tried to es cape the area. I can't even imagine the daily traffic on Santa Ana Canyon if the propos ed development is allowed. It is well known that many drivers take Santa Ana Canyon though Anaheim to avoid the traffic on the 91 freeway and we live right in the middle of that path. Even wors e is imagining the evacuations in the event of more wildfires . It will be impos s ible to get out! Several years ago as a wildfire quickly s pread I watched parents abandon their cars on the s ide of the road to run to get their kids from s chool. It was chaos! Every day our family drives on the s tretch of Santa Ana Canyon that will be impacted the greates t and it's already s o conges ted on a regular day. In the event of an emergency the gridlock can be catas trophic! I am urging the city to deny or at leas t delay ANY hous ing development until the public s afety concerns are adequately and trans parently addres s ed! Thank you for your time and attention. Res pectfully, Jenny Stewart
