Dear Mayor Aitken and Members of the Anaheim City Council,
As a resident of the Belsomet community and a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), I am wri ti ng to formally express my strong
opposition to the proposed high-density apartment complex at the Festival shopping center.
While I understand the need for housing, this specific location presents critical Life Safety and Infrastructure risks that have not
been adequately mitigated:
Evacuation Gridlock: During the 2017 fires, our community experienced total gridlock. Adding a projected 1,000+
additional vehicles to this specific bottleneck will dangerously compromise the City’s abi lity to evacuate Anaheim Hills
residents during the next inevitable wildfire.
Infrastructure Strain: As an engineer, I am concerned that the existing road density and uti lity i nfrastructure in the C anyon
area were not designed to support this level of high-density residential concentrati on at thi s speci fi c si te.
Precedent: This Council correctly recognized these same safety risks when the D eer Canyon project was voted down. The
Festival Center project carries the same—if not greater—risks to public safety.
I urge you to prioritize the safety of existing residents and vote NO on the Shea Properti es proposal today.
