Good afternoon Council Members, Mayor, and staff,
I am here tonight as a mother of a teenager, an educator, a community member, and most importantly a family member of Albert
Arzola who was unjustly murdered in his home on Saturday, December 6th. I am urgi ng you to take action to ensure the unedited
body cams of each officer involved are released. The portion that was released was of only one officer and appears edited.
Why was the other officer's bodycam video not released? This does not answer all the questi ons and just rai ses more doubt and
distrust in the city's police department. You have an obligation to ensure that there i s transparency and accountabili ty to your
constituents and community. Your city residents deserve to feel safe in their homes.
Albert is my nephew and was loved by so many. He graduated from Katella High School and was working i n the city he loved,
Anaheim. He had a bright future ahead, he was taking the first steps in his life to be i ndependent while becoming proacti ve i n
shaping his future. That was stolen from Albert, his family, and our Anaheim community. We will not remai n si lent about this
senseless act by a gang unit officer. Based on the information and facts at disposal, the offi cer drew hi s gun once he stepped
foot from the unmarked vehicle. Why? If this was just a concern about graffiti, Why? Albert was not vi olent or was not a threat to
anyone.
Police officers' role is to remain calm, problem solve, and demonstrate self control when deali ng wi th tense si tuations. They are
professionals who go through extensive training and are sworn to serve and protect. Drawi ng a gun wi th the intenti on to shoot
once stepping foot from the vehicle is very disturbing for the public to comprehend and the infraction graffiti. Given what has
been released, this did not warrant the death of a 19-year old teen.
I ask the Mayor, city council, and Police Chief Manny Cid that this information be released to the family and publi c for
transparency. We the public and community have the right to know the facts. This is the fi rst step in seeking justice for Albert,
his family, and the larger concerned community. Thank you for your time. Just for Albert Arzola Jr!
Sincerely,
Christine Lopez Ediss
