CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on October 9, 2025, the regular meeting of the
Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Linda Newby at 4:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Jackie Filbeck, Linda Newby, Amanda Wortman
ABSENT: Rose Chen, Elia Renteria-Garcia
STAFF: Audrey Lujan — City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx — Management Assistant II
I. INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS:
A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The Friends of Anaheim
Public Library made a total of $384.72 at their September Sale. The Friends will have a
special two-day sale from October 17-18, 2025. Children's and teen books will be free, and
special books and vinyl records will be half-price. Several members of the Friends attended
the Haskett Makerspace Grand Opening and look forward to using the space.
B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: Staff presented FOCAL with the
donations from the limited edition library cards. Their September Flash Sale was a huge
success, and their next Flash Sale is October 23-24, 2025. FOCAL continued their annual
tradition of donating to local schools. This year, they donated to one high school, one middle
school, and six elementary schools. They received many thanks from grateful teachers.
C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: No report.
D. COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: None.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 8, 2025, MEETING: The minutes were
approved as presented.
III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A. Anaheim Public Library Report to City Council on the condition of the libraries for Fiscal
Year 2024/25 per ARTICLE IX. APPOINTIVE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS, Section
908: The Library Board amended the letter to include additional information regarding
Amnesty Month.
MOTION: That the Board approve the Report to City Council on the Condition of
the Libraries for Fiscal Year 2024/25 as amended: M/S LN/JF, 3 ayes.

IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. NOVEMBER LIBRARY BOARD MEETING: The Library Board cancelled the
November 10, 2025, Library Board Meeting.
V. INFORMATION
A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• Library staff will train AESD after -school staff on how to access Anaheim Public
Library's online resources on October 16, 2025. This training is part of the APL/AESD
collaboration to support literacy for students, maximize the use of our APT, online
resources, and raise reading scores.
• The winners of the Creative Writing Project will be recognized at City Council on
November 18, 2025. The winners will also be recognized at the AESD and CESD
School Board Meetings.
• The Haskett Makerspace Grand Opening was held on October 4, 2025, and was a huge
success.
• The Spinal Dread Horror Literature and Culture Festival was held on September 27,
2025. The Festival was attended by 1,700 people and received many positive comments
from the community.
B. BUDGET: None.
VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS
A. STATISTIC SANFOGRAPHIC S/ACTIVITY REPORTS: None.
VII. BOARD ITEMS
MEMBER JACKIE FILBECK: Is enjoying being a judge for the Creative Writing Contest and is
impressed with the stories written by the students.
MEMBER AMANDA WORTMAN: Attended the Haskett Makerspace grand opening and was very
impressed. She also attended the Spinal Dread event and felt it went far beyond everyone's
expectations. Amanda is also serving as a judge for the Creative Writing Contest. She is very
impressed that Haskett Library is offering Vietnamese Storytimes for the community.
CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Is feeling fulfilled serving as a judge for the Creative Writing Contest.
She enjoys seeing the Instagram posts and requested to know if Instagram is more popular
statistically for the Library's posts.
VIII, MISCELLANEOUS
A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be December 8, 2025, at the Central Library.
B. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Newby adjourned the meeting at 5:13 p.m.
