To the Honorable Mayor and City Council of Anaheim: Concerning the Fes tival Specific Plan Development Application No. 2023-00043 Propos ing to build over 400 new apartment homes in a s evere fire ris k area that already has unacceptable evacuation times is reckles s . Jus t over a year ago we watched the Pacific Palis ades burn, cos ting at leas t 12 lives and untold des truction of private property. This was on top of devas tating los s es in Maui and Paradis e California, that were exacerbated by poor civil engineering and what I consider to be criminally poor s tewards hip by government officials . In each of thes e ins tances politicians put the lives of res idents on the line without s ufficient infras tructure to support what is already in place. And politely, I've s een the s peed of government. I think I can s afely point to the tax payer funded California high s peed rail s ys tem for an example. Build the infras tructure BEFORE you green light any new high dens ity hous ing projects. It is currently ins ufficient for the people pres ent, adding cars of extra res idents or even s low cons truction vehicles may cos t lives ; but will certainly cos t hugely in quality of life for current citizens . I unders tand the s tate mandate to build a certain number of new units , but I do not s ee how building new homes s hould come at the cos t of safety. I urge you to fight for current and future res idents by not allowing high dens ity hous ing without the infras tructure already in place.
