D ear C ity C ouncil members,
I am writing to express my concerns about the apartment building planned for the F esti val C enter. I understand that all cities in
C alifornia are under pressure to create additional housing. L ike many people in thi s state, I struggle wi th the high cost of
living here. I am sympathetic to those who cannot afford decent housing. However, we should not attempt to allevi ate this
problem by sacrificing the safety of current residents. I wrote to you all in 2024 about my opposi ti on to the proposed
development in D eer C anyon. I oppose this project for the same reason. My understandi ng i s that the F estival apartments
would add an additional 1000 cars to the roads here. The planning committee has said that the now-closed E dwards Theatre
brought at least as many cars to that parking lot, which is simply not true. C reating more congestion on roads already
overwhelmed with routine traffic would be unwise, especially given the high risk of fires i n this area, a ri sk underscored by the
increasing number of insurance companies refusing to offer fire insurance to residents here.
E very E ast A naheim resident I have spoken with opposes this project, mainly due to fear that we won’t be able to evacuate
during a fire. You listened to the fire department and the community’s concerns about the D eer C anyon project. The F estival
project would bring the same dangers. P lease don’t approve a project that would endanger current and future residents’
safety.
Thank you,
