I a m writing to expres s my s upport for the propos ed condominium devel opment at the AH. Ana heim ha s approved many developments over the years in the flatla nd a reas of the c i ty—projec ts that I, a l ong with other res i dents , oppos ed for various rea s ons . Des pite our concerns , many of thos e developments moved forward, a nd our voi ces were not heard. For tha t rea s on, it is difficult to unders tand why this project is being s o s trongly oppos ed by Ana hei m Hi l l s res idents , and why you would you vote no when we ha ve a s horta g e of hous ing . During public comments , I was deeply s a ddened by rema rks made tha t portra yed future res idents in a neg ati ve and unfa i r wa y. C omments s ug g es ting tha t working families would s omehow lower the qua lity of the neig hborhood were hurtful and divi s ive. Many of us were not born with privileg e, but we work hard, rais e our fa milies here, a nd des erve the opportunity to own a home in Ana hei m Hi l l s . Some opponents cite tra ffic and fire concerns as reas ons to deny this project. While thes e a re i mporta nt c ons idera tions , tra ffi c alrea dy exis ts in this area a nd will continue to exis t throughout the city. Public roa ds are mea nt to be us ed by everyone, a nd tra ffi c impac ts s hould not be us ed a s a rea s on to deny hous ing opportunities —es pecia lly when the need for homeowners hip opti ons is s o g rea t. This is a well-loca ted project. It offers nearby s hopping , dining , a nd s ervices tha t reduc e the need for long c ommutes . Similar developments a re s ucces s ful beca us e they create walka ble communities where res idents ca n live, work, and s hop l ocally. I res pectfully as k the Mayor and C ity C ouncil to vote yes in fa vor of this project. Hous ing s hould be for all—not onl y for thos e who alrea dy own homes . Pleas e do not allow fear or dis crimina tion to prevent hardworking fa milies from ha ving the opportuni ty to own a home in the hills . B es t Reg ards ! Jea nette Saldiva r P.S. I unders tand tha t you ma y receive multiple emails from the s a me hous eholds oppos i ng this projec t. I res pec tful l y as k tha t you a l s o cons ider the many young fa milies and long-term renters who are s truggling with ris ing rents a nd are s eeki ng a real opportunity to become homeowners . Affordable homeowners hip is critical to keeping working families in Ana hei m i ns tea d of forc i ng them to l ea ve the city.
