res ident here alrea dy knows : S a nta A na C anyon Roa d is maxed out. You don’t need a tra ffic s tudy to s ee it — jus t try dri ving i t on
any weekday. T he idea tha t we can a dd more tha n 400 a pa rtments and roughly 1,300 new res idents without crea ng a dang erous
eva cuaon nig htma re s imply defies common s ens e.
T he city’s own reports a cknowledge that it alrea dy takes res idents over three hours to g et out during a wi l dfire. T hree hours . A nd
yet we’re being told that adding a nother s even minutes of delay is “not a big dea l.” T ha t is infuriang . W hen people a re tra pped in
their cars with a fire moving towa rd them, s even minutes is not a rounding error — it ’s a life‑threa tening del a y. I f a buc ket i s
alrea dy overflowing , you don’t keep pouring wa ter into it and pretend it ’s fine.
A pproving this project would be a n admis s ion that the eva cuaon s ys tem is broken — a nd a decis i on to make i t even wors e a nywa y.
T ha t is not res pons ible lea ders hip. T ha t is g a mbling with the s afety of the people who a lrea dy l i ve here.
We need leaders who will look a t the reality on the ground, not jus t the numbers on a developer ’s s prea ds heet. We need s a fer wa ys
out of the H ills , not more people trapped in them when the next fire comes .
