De ar Mayor and Council Me mbe rs, and Pl anning Commissioners,
I am wri ting as an A nahe im Hills resident to re spe ctful l y urge you to vote NO on the propose d Re nai ssance Canyon A cre s de ve l opme nt l ocate d
at 233 S. Qui ntana Dri ve , Anahe i m, CA 92807 (DEV2025-00027).
Whi l e I unde rstand the Ci ty’s need for housing, thi s proje ct rai se s seri ous concerns re garding traf fi c conge sti on, w i l dfi re e vacuati on saf e ty, and
ne ighborhood compati bi l i ty that must be addre sse d before any approval i s considere d.
A ccording to the de ve l ope r’s own mate rial s, thi s proje ct would i ntroduce 140 new ve hi cl e s i nto an are a that al re ady f uncti ons as a traf fi c and
e vacuation choke poi nt. Qui ntana Dri ve i s a narrow corri dor with no viabl e al ternate routes, and i t se rve s as the sol e e x i t for f our narrow
pri vate roads, including Trai l Drive homes, all me rgi ng i nto S. Qui ntana Dri ve. There has bee n no cre di bl e e vi de nce pre se nte d that e x i sti ng
Canyon Acre s traff i c conditi ons have e ver matched this l e vel of added volume, nor that the roadw ay can safe l y accommodate i t—e spe ci ally
duri ng an e me rge ncy.
I l i ve d through Canyon Fi re 2 i n 2017 and e xperi e nce d complete gridlock whi l e smoke was approachi ng, si tti ng i n my car for ove r an hour
w i thout movi ng. This was not a minor inconve ni e nce —i t was frightening and dangerous. Proje ct re ports sugge st the adde d traff i c w oul d
incre ase e vacuati on ti me by “only” seve n minute s; howe ver, whe n re si de nts are al ready trappe d f or hours duri ng a w i l dfi re , se ve n mi nute s
can be the di ff e re nce be tw e e n safety and trage dy.
Be yond public saf e ty, thi s deve l opme nt i s not compatible with the surrounding neighborhood. A l though the propose d proj e ct zoni ng i s
labe l e d Low De nsi ty (RS-2), the ex i sting RS-2 homes were not built to the scal e , massi ng, or se tback i nte nsi ty propose d he re . In addi ti on, the
maj ority of the proje ct prope rty i s currentl y zone d RH-2 and abuts si mi l ar estate -style RH-2 zoni ng. A 25-uni t proje ct doe s not bl e nd w i th the
surrounding singl e -f amily homes and doe s not re flect the established characte r or val ue s of the communi ty.
Grow th shoul d ne ve r come at the e xpense of publ i c safety. Approving addi tional density be f ore addre ssi ng e vacuati on route s, traf fi c
inf rastructure , and e me rge ncy re sponse capacity pl aces e xisti ng residents at unacceptable ri sk.
Shoul d you f i nd it he lpf ul , I would welcome the opportuni ty for you or your staff to visit the si te and surroundi ng stre e ts to be tte r unde rstand
the physi cal constraints and safety conce rns outlined above .
I re spe ctfully ask you to priori tize safe ty, infrastructure , and community compati bi l i ty by voti ng N O on the Re nai ssance Canyon Acre s proj e ct.
Thank you f or your ti me and considerati on.
Si nce re ly,
Paul Nasi j
