Dear Council Member,
Pleas e, pleas e recons ider. Our tract at Riverview and Santa Ana Cyn is swamped many, many days with cut through traffic as it s tands now. We are thankful to the
city for putting s peed bumps on Larkwood to s low down s peeders , but that cannot and does not affect the bumper-to-bumper cars that happen whenever the 91
backs up. With local s treets impacted already in this way, building high dens ity hous ing jus t is n’t s mart. It’s s incerely frightening to think of the inevitable
evacuations we will face.
I am writing to as k you to vote "No" on the Anaheim Hills Fes tival Center apartment project. You don't need to be a traffic expert to s ee that Santa Ana Canyon Road
is already at its limit. Mos t days , jus t getting to the s tore or work is a challenge. The idea that we can add over 400 apartments and about 1300 people to this area
without creating a dis as ter during a wildfire evacuation jus t does n't pas s the "common sens e" test.
The city's own reports admit that it already takes res idents over three hours to get out during a fire. To then s ay that adding another 7 minutes of delay is "not a big
deal" is incredibly frus trating to thos e of us who live here. If a bucket is already overflowing, you don't keep pouring more water into it and s ay it's fine. By approving
this , the city is bas ically admitting the evacuation plan is broken but choosing to make it even more crowded anyway.
We need our leaders to look at the reality of our s treets , not jus t the numbers on a developer's spreadsheet. Pleas e do the res pons ible thing and protect the res idents
who are already here. We need better ways to get out of the Hills , not more people trapped in them. Pleas e vote "No" on this project.
Sincerely,
Julie Vanderpool
