Dear Council Member, My family and I chose to make Anaheim Hills our home because it is a safe, welcoming, and family-centered community. As a mother, I am increasingly worried about the proposed Shea/Festival Center apartment project and what it could mean for our neighborhood’s safety. We live in a designated high fire severity zone with very limited evacuation routes, and it is deeply concerning to know that evacuation during a major wildfire could already take hours. Adding more than 1,000 new residents and their vehicles to an area that already struggles with traffic flow during peak times raises serious concerns. The project’s own environmental review indicates that evacuation times would increase. In an emergency, every minute matters. I think about how quickly a wildfire can spread and what it would mean to be trying to get my family out while roads are gridlocked. That is not a risk our community should be asked to accept. I understand the importance of addressing housing needs, and I am not opposed to responsible development. However, placing high-density housing at a known evacuation bottleneck in a high-risk fire zone does not seem like responsible planning. Public safety must come first. I respectfully ask that you vote “No” on this project unless and until there are real, concrete improvements to ensure residents can evacuate safely. Sincerely,
