Dear Council Member,
If you could do s omething to avoid the devas tating recent fires in Pacific Palis ades and Altadena, wouldn’t you? Anaheim Hills could be next, and it could be wors e.
There are only three evacuation routes out of Anaheim Hills . Res idents already Know Their Way. Traffic in this area of Anaheim is already gridlocked to a full hard
s top on thes e routes almos t every afternoon with normal traffic. It can take me an hour to drive down Weir Canyon to Cos tco at Savi Ranch, a route that takes
minutes with no traffic. You’ve heard the s tories of res idents having to s imply abandon their cars in previous evacuations becaus e the routes became clogged with
vehicles . Are you going to s acrifice res idents to die in fire for s ome more apartments ?
Every year as the hills become brown and dry, and the Santa Ana winds blow so hard my hous e feels like it’s going to blow off its foundation, I think, “Is this the
year it all burns down? And how many are going to die?”
The idea that you would even cons ider wors ening this s ituation before taking action to address the problem (Fairmont overpas s ?) is terrifying to all res idents s uch as
my family.
I unders tand there is a hous ing s hortage, but this is not NIMBYis m. This is a matter of survival. Surely you don’t addres s a hous ing problem by building more
hous ing in an already dangerous area. Surely you don’t change zoning when it worsens what is already a very dangerous s ituation. Is n’t that the oppos ite of what
zoning is s uppos ed to do?
Pleas e vote on this ill advis ed propos al as if your family were living here, as mine is , in fear.
Pleas e vote no
