live d he re duri ng the Canyon Fi re 2 i n 2017, and I wi l l neve r forget the fe e l i ng of be i ng stuck i n my car, watchi ng the smoke ge t cl ose r, and
lite ral l y not moving f or ove r an hour. It wasn't just "traffic"—it was a total standstill. The thought of addi ng hundre ds of ne w apartme nts and
about 1000+ more pe opl e to that ex act same escape route i s te rri fyi ng to those of us who have actual l y be e n i n that si tuati on.
The re ports f or this proje ct say that adding the se cars will "onl y" add about 7 minute s to the e vacuati on ti me . But w he n you're al re ady stuck f or
thre e hours and the fire is moving toward you, 7 mi nutes i s a life time. We don't have e xtra roads or "se cre t" ways out of the Hi l l s; we al l e nd
up on the same f e w l ane s. Adding more people to a ne i ghborhood that is alre ady a bottlene ck duri ng a f i re j ust fe e l s l i ke a trage dy wai ti ng to
happe n.
I unde rstand that the ci ty needs housi ng, but i t shoul dn't be bui l t i n a place whe re pe opl e are al re ady struggl i ng to ge t out safe l y. Pl e ase don't
make an e xisti ng dange r e ven worse just for a ne w de velopment. We are aski ng you to priori ti ze the l i ve s and safe ty of the pe opl e w ho
