Dear Council Member, I moved to Anaheim Hills becaus e it is a beautiful, family-oriented community, but I am very concerned about the propos ed Shea/Fes tival Center apartment project. Since moving here, I've learned that our neighborhood is in a high-ris k fire zone with very limited ways to get out. I was s hocked to read that it already takes over three hours to evacuate this area during an emergency. Adding over 1,000 more people and their cars to our s treets s eems like a huge ris k to everyone's s afety. The project's environmental report admits that thes e new apartments will make evacuation times even longer. As a parent, I think about what would happen if a fire broke out while I was trying to get my [kids /pets /elderly parents ] to s afety. If the roads are already failing, adding hundreds more cars into the mix will make a bad s ituation impos s ible. It feels like the city is hoping for the bes t rather than planning for the worst. I am not agains t new hous ing in general, but it has to be built in the right places . If Anaheim Hills was n’t being us ed as a thoroughfare every s ingle day, maybe this project wouldn’t be s o dangerous . But unfortunately for us as res idence, most people trying to avoid the 91 freeway going inland are us ing our roads both morning and night! Santa Ana Canyon, Anaheim Hills road, Weir Canyon, and Serrano are already traffic Jams and we can’t handle anymore cars ! Putting high-dens ity hous ing at a known bottleneck in a fire zone is not res ponsible. I am asking you to pleas e put our s afety firs t and vote "No" on this project until we have a real s olution for getting people out of the Hills s afely. Sincerely, Helen Harper
