Dear Council Member, I am writing to you as a res ident of Anaheim to as k you to pleas e vote "No" on the propos ed apartments at the Anaheim Hills Fes tival Center. I lived here during the Canyon Fire 2 in 2017. I was able to get to Running Springs Elementary school to evacuate my 2 grands ons before they were put on a bus , only to be s tuck in traffic on route to Canyon High School. The road in to the s chool clos ed jus t as I got to the s ignal & I ran uphill to get to them. I will never forget the fear I felt along with other parents . We continued to watch the news and call my daughter’s answering machine to see if her hous e was s till s tanding. I have lived in three homes in Anaheim Hills s ince 1975. Santa Ana Canyon and Imperial was a four way stop. I am not anti growth, I AM OPPOSED TO THE NUMBER OF APARTMENTS BEING PROPOSED IN AN AREA WHERE TRAFFIC IS ALREADY GRIDLOCKED. I invite you to come to Serrano mos t afternoons . It can s ometimes take three cycles for me to turn left onto Serrano from Canyon Creek, let alone travel Wes t on Weir Canyon. Certainly there are other areas that make more s ens e, like the old Kais er Hos pital lot. The reports for this project s ay that adding thes e cars will "only" add about 7 minutes to the evacuation time. But when you're already s tuck for three hours and the fire is moving toward you, 7 minutes is a lifetime. We don't have extra roads or "s ecret" ways out of the Hills ; we all end up on the s ame few lanes . Adding more people to a neighborhood that is already a bottleneck during a fire jus t feels like a tragedy waiting to happen. I unders tand that the city needs hous ing, but it s houldn't be built in a place where people are already struggling to get out s afely. Pleas e don't make an exis ting danger even wors e jus t for a new development. We are as king you to prioritize the lives and s afety of the people who already live here and pay taxes here.
