Anaheim City Council Members,
I have learned of the proposed construction project on Santa Ana Canyon Road. (Shea/Festival Center Apartments) W ell, where should
I start with my position on this idea?
The apartment development will have 447 dwellings. Each home will have a minimum one to two vehicles per dwelling, which means an
additional 1,000 plus cars. W ith the already heavily traveled 91 Freeway, how are people expected to get from point A to point B in a
reasonable amount of time?
Our family church, Kindred Community, is on Santa Ana Canyon Road. It is the frontage road between the 91 Freeway and our Church.
Kindred cannot have any evening events due to the traffic on the 91 and the cars driving up Santa Ana Canyon beside the freeway
makes it is nearly impossible. Now, imagine adding an extra 1,000 cars to this already serious dilem ma.
W ith all that I have mentioned, this has nearly doubled the travel time allowance for most and the added stres s and anxiety caused by
this makes for many unhappy people. Families are already suffering due to restricted tim e fac tors as it is. People are dis c ouraged with
the prospect of getting their children to and from extracurricular activities. Not to mention the im pac t on evacuation routes in this very
high fire hazard severity zone. A 3-hour evacuation time is completely unacceptable.
People’s homes are where their hearts are…if it is the intention of the City of Anaheim to c aus e more discord in the lives of their
residents, then this project will do just that.
W e hope that the you and the Senior Planner for the City of Anaheim, give sincere consideration to this project and the major negative
impact it will have upon the citizens of Anaheim Hills and their lives.
Another consideration; my wife (Cindy) and I were enjoying a walk-through Reagan Park and c ame acros s a memorial plaque in honor of
Christopher Jarvi. It shows his vision for the community of Anaheim. It brought to mind this new projec t and the plans to re-zone the
wildlife preserve.
(See memorial below)
This Tree Grove is a Memorial to
Christopher K. Jarvi
and his dedicated public service to the residents of the City of Anaheim.
Chris began his career with the City in 1979 and became the
Direc tor of Community Services in 1982 until his retirement in 2003.
During Chris’ tenure with Anaheim he oversaw the development of
numerous parks and library projects and programs affecting
a broad range of citizens throughout the City.
He viewed his job as building a great community
rather than simply delivering service.
Chris passed away on April 22, 2013, leaving a large legacy
for the residents of Anaheim and others to enjoy.
The city of Anaheim covers 34,000 acres and less than 6% (1,500 acres) reserved for parks , reserves and the pres ervation of wildlife.
W hy would the City reduce this small acreage even further and re-zone for residential? There are better alternative loc ations that are
more suitable within District 6 and other parts of Anaheim for this structure that do not enc roach upon invaluable natural res erves .
There are so many negative aspects to this project. Here are just a few:
· Emergency evacuation routes and fire danger (putting residences at risk)
· Impact on wildlife and ecology
· Traffic congestion on Santa Ana Canyon Road
· Destruction of City-Planned Scenic Corridor
· Environmental destruction
· Utilities overconsumption
· Noise pollution
· Impact of Schools and busing
Please vote NO on this project!
Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully,
Robert Hauck
