Dear C ouncil Member,
I am writing to you a s a res ident a nd homeowner in Anaheim to a s k you to plea s e vote "No" on the propos ed apartments at the
Ana heim Hills Fes tival C enter. I lived here during the Canyon Fire 2 in 2017, a nd I will never forg et the feeling of hel pl es s l y wa tc hi ng
the fire a pproach a nd not knowing where to g o or being able to g et there. The thoug ht of a dding hundreds of new apartments and
about 1000+ more people to that exact s a me es ca pe route is terrifying to thos e of us who ha ve a ctua l l y been in tha t s i tuati on.
The reports for this project s ay that a dding thes e cars will "only" add about 7 minutes to the eva cuati on time. B ut when you're a l ready
s tuck for three hours and the fire is moving towa rd you, 7 minutes is a lifetime. We don't ha ve extra roa ds or "s ec ret" ways out of the
Hills ; we all end up on the s ame few lanes . Adding more people to a neighborhood that is a l ready a bottl eneck during a fi re jus t feel s
like a tra g edy wa iting to ha ppen.
I unders ta nd that the city needs hous ing , but it s houldn't be built in a place where people a re a l ready s trug g ling to g et out s afel y.
Pleas e don't make a n exis ting danger even wors e jus t for a new development. We are a s king you to pri oriti ze the lives and s a fety of
the people who alrea dy live here and pay taxes here.
Sincerely,
Ja net Downey (res ident and homeowner in Ana heim Hills for over 30 yea rs )
