Dear Council Members,
I am writing to respectfully urge you to vote no on the proposed festival project.
My children were stuck at Canyon Rim elementary. They drew pictures of how their day was showing flames on the hill behind their school. A bus
could not make it through traffic to take remaining children and they sat on the floor of buses already there. It took the nurse an hour to make it to
the high school with medications and she left earlier than most. Parents were desperate to figure out if their kids made it out. My husband could not
join us and help get the kids out because of the road closures. Our neighbor's elderly mother could not leave because they could not get to her.
We prayed the fire would not jump the road. The sky was red and angry. It is not something we will forget soon.
There are alternative development sites that present significantly less fire risk. Moving forward with this location would place current residents and
future tenants in a vulnerable position, particularly given the increasing challenges around fire insurance availability and affordability. Future tenants
could face serious burdens if coverage becomes limited or unattainable.
I also strongly encourage the council to require a realistic emergency preparedness assessment before considering approval. A mock evacuation
conducted during normal, high-traffic conditions — not during light traffic — would provide a more accurate understanding of potential gridlock
and response times in the event of a real emergency.
Public safety must remain the priority. Please do not move forward with a project that could endanger families and constituents.
Thank you for your consideration.
