To the city council members of Anaheim who voted against the Salt development in Dear Canyon, thank you for keeping safety a priority for those you serve. We were all thinking of your vote again and grateful for you again when the LA fires were so devastating last year. To the city council members who were in favor of building large developments near Santa Ana Canyon Road in Anaheim Hills, we know your districts have been negatively impacted by recent growth. We know the pressure and need for more housing. I am all about shouldering the burden and accepting change but not at the cost of safety. The geography is what it is, Santa Ana Canyon Road is a major artery for thousands of homes. 'Know Your Way Out' doesn't help when you can not get out. Let's make this work and keep Anaheim great and let's do it responsibly, smart and put safety as a top priority. This doesn't mean just more fire hydrants. Please search for and listen to the specialists who are not partisan to developers and find a safe solution. Something that I did not hear brought up the last time there was a push for large development in Anaheim Hills was the concern for evacuating schools. El Rancho is a block from Santa Ana Canyon Road and has over a thousand students. We also have three elementary schools that would use our two exit routes of Weir Canyon and Imperial. We don't choose when the fire comes. Parents will be rushing to pick up their children and adding to the congestion and undoubtedly confusion of getting out. Data is greater than opinion. Planning responsibly does not mean planning for the best case imagined scenario. The proposed 447 unit development in Festival Shopping Center is no different than the Salt project. Sadly our country has an increasing history of making poor decisions in the name of profit. To those in a position of leadership please lead wisely. Thank you council members for your service to our community.
