Dear Council Member,
I am writing to you again as a res ident of Anaheim in the Summit community by Running Springs Elementary School to as k you to pleas e vote "No" on the propos ed
apartments at the Anaheim Hills Fes tival Center.
As s tated previous ly, I lived here during the Canyon Fire 2 in 2017, and I will never forget the feeling of being s tuck in my car for hours , watching the s moke get
clos er, and barely moving down Santa Ana Canyon Rd. It was n't jus t "traffic"— it was a total standstill. The thought of adding hundreds of new apartments and
1000+ more people to that exact s ame es cape route is terrifying to thos e of us who have actually been in that s ituation.
The reports for this project s ay that adding thes e cars will "only" add about 7 minutes to the evacuation time. But when you're already s tuck for three hours and the
fire is moving toward you, 7 minutes is a lifetime. We don't have extra roads out of the Hills; we all end up on the s ame few lanes . Adding more people to a
neighborhood that is already a bottleneck during a fire jus t feels like a tragedy waiting to happen.
At the las t meeting, I heard that a Wildfire Evacuation Study was approved. I heard that it was s uppos ed to be delivered in January, but it remains unreleas ed. How
can it be approved if it has not been releas ed? And how can you be s ure that the plan actually works ? And If the report is needed for CEQA compliance, then how
can the city be compliant without the releas ed report? So without the Evacuation Study, there’s really no proof that res idents in Anaheim Hills will be s afe in an
emergency evacuation.
Another point, does the Wildfire Evacuation Study include the addition of the new housing units , or was it done with jus t the exis ting homes ? If not done with the
propos ed new hous ing and additional 1000+ res idents , wouldn’t that need to be done and released before the report can be approved?
I unders tand that the city needs hous ing, but it s houldn't be built in a place that has high fire danger where people are already s truggling to evacuate s afely. Pleas e
don't make an exis ting danger even wors e jus t for a new development. We are as king you to prioritize the lives and s afety of the people who already live and pay
taxes here.
Thank you for lis tening to my concerns and I hope you will put our community safety firs t by voting NO on building this development.
Sincerely,
Tracy O’Day
