Hello,
I am a La Mirada res ident that jus t read about your upcoming meeting on backyard chickens in Anaheim. Las t year, La Mirada approved 6 chickens for all s ingle
family dwellings on property lot s izes over 5000 s q ft with a 5 ft s etback from property lines and 10 ft setback from any human inhabited dwelling. We were able to get
6 chicks under thes e new rules and it has been s uch a pos itive experience for our family. My husband built us an adorable coop, we us e a s and bottom and a coop
s coop (like a giant kitty litter s coop) and clean it daily. There are no s mells . They go to bed naturally at s uns et and are quiet all night long. They wake up at 7 but
becaus e we have no roos ters , the nois e is minimal. They do make s ome nois e when laying an egg (egg song) but it does n’t las t long and is quieter than a barking
dog. Ins ide the hous e, we can barely hear it. We are able to feed our family fres h eggs on a daily basis and can s hare a few with the neighbors . I have given our
neighbors my phone number in cas e they ever hear nois e and they both told me they wouldn’t have known I even have chickens if I hadn’t told them. They are
als o a great hobby for mental health, kids , etc. Buena Park als o recently allowed 6 hens, I think La Mirada us ed their s ame rules . Pleas e cons ider allowing your s ingle
family res idences 6 hens as well, it will improve the lives of your res idents . (8 would be ideal for enough eggs for a family of 4 but 6 is better than nothing! ❤ )
