With the exception of Council Member Maahs, the Mayor and a begrudging vote by Council Member Meeks, you are making a clear and dangerous choice between political patronage and human lives. The public is not blind to the optics of this vote. We see a massive development being pushed forward where support is predicated on a (PLA), while documented, life-threatening safety risks are ignored. In a city still reeling from the 2024 JL Group Investigative Report, which exposed a culture of “backroom deals” and “cabal-like” control over land-use decisions, it is staggering that you would prioritize a labor deal over a three- plus hour fire evacuation delay. Councilmember Rubalcava was specifically named in that investigation regarding questionable political maneuvers. To now predicate a vote on a union agreement while dismissively labeling our evacuation plan as "fluid" is a textbook example of the pay-to-play politics the FBI has already flagged in this chamber. A "fluid" evacuation plan is a direct CEQA violation. You cannot legally approve a project in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone based on a "fluid" concept. There is no comprehensive plan because the existing infrastructure cannot physically accommodate a safe exit for the current residents, let alone the new ones you intend to add. The "Happiest Place on Earth" deserves a Council that values resident survival over political schemes. If you vote Yes tomorrow, you are choosing a union contract over the lives of the people you were elected to protect. Shame on you. Linda Hurley
