It’s been a busy week working for California’s 46th Congressional District, and I want to take a moment to share a quick update: A Dog’s Day Out Last weekend, I was excited to celebrate the opening of Santa Ana’s first dog park at Centennial Park and see so many neighbors out enjoying it. This is a space built for happy tails and a lot of new four-legged friendships. You could say it’s a pawsitive addition to our community! 1 Rep. Lou Correa interacts with a happy doggo who enjoyed the new park. Hello, It’s been another busy week in Orange County and Washington, D.C., working for California’s 46th Congressional District. Here are some highlights: Presenting Federal Funding to the Fullerton Fire Department I was proud to secure federal funding for the Fullerton Fire Department. Firefighters serve on the front lines of many of the worst tragedies that communities face, which is why it is incredibly important that they have the resources they need to effectively and safely respond to emergencies. Learn more by watching ABC7‘s news segment and the Fullerton Observer‘s article about my event. 1 Rep. Lou Correa speaks to the Fullerton Fire Department. One Big Ugly Bill Over 46,000 people in our community will lose access to health coverage due to Medicaid cuts in the Republicans' One Big Ugly Bill. AND guess what? Republicans in Washington set up a vote this week to celebrate that. 2 Rep. Lou Correa explains the One Big “Ugly” Bill. Fighting for DACA Recipients I led 86 colleagues to demand answers from the Secretary of Homeland Security on why DACA recipients are facing major renewal delays—causing financial hardship, job loss, and even detention and removal. DACA recipients deserve protection and a pathway to citizenship, not to be failed by their government. Yet, the President has yet to justify to Congress why we are engaged in this war, what the objectives are, when these objectives will be accomplished, and what a win looks like. Congress needs to reassert our authority to declare war. This nation must not be part of any efforts to destroy the Persian Civilization or any other civilization. I voted for the Iran war powers legislation to cease American efforts in this war. National Institute on Drug Abuse Director Speaks to PATH Caucus Honored to have Dr. Nora Volkow, the National Institute on Drug Abuse Director, join me and my PATH Caucus Co-chair Rep. Jack Bergman to discuss clinical research on psychedelic therapies and how these emerging therapies show strong results in treating addiction, depression, and other conditions. 5 Rep. Lou Correa meets with Dr. Nora Volkow at the PATH Caucus roundtable. Honoring Sylvia Mendez 6 Sylvia Mendez reminds us of the importance of standing up for yourself and your community. Californians should be aware that school segregation was not just an injustice that occurred in the ‘Jim Crow’ South, but it happened right here too. Recognizing both Sylvia Mendez’s story and the landmark Mendez v. Westminster ruling through a state holiday will help shine a light on the history of school segregation in Orange County, the perseverance of the Latino community, and how a young girl has the power to make sweeping change. Rep. Lou Correa awards Sylvia Mendez a Congressional Certificate. Orange County Job Fair On April 23 from 11 am to 2 pm, Santa Ana College will be hosting a job fair. Interested in attending? If you’re navigating the immigration process, applying for a work permit, or simply have questions, my office is ready to help every step of the way. Don’t hesitate to reach out at (714) 559-6190—we’re here for you. Sincerely, Rep. Lou Correa Member of Congress Sign up for my newsletter to get updates on this issue and others! Sign Up!
