Center Street. Anaheim, CA March 19, 2026 - 2:00 p.m. STAFF PRESENT: Brian Chwan, Community Services Superintendent Maureen Richardson, Community Services Supervisor Beth Lapkowski, Administrative Assistant AGENDA ACTION TAKEN 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Barnes called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Vice -Chair Brio led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Barnes presented the minutes of the February 19, 2026, meeting. Vice -Chair Brio made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Noteboom. Chair Barnes accepted the minutes as presented. 4. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: a. None. 5. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: a. Disaster Preparedness — Brian Chwan explained that the representative from Anaheim Fire & Rescue was not available to provide the presentation today, but they would come to the next meeting. 6. NEW BUSINESS: None. Commissioner Sanchez stated that he looked on the city website for information about the Senior Citizen's Club, and he only found one paragraph, which he felt didn't give very much information. He inquired whether more information about the club could be published, such as how to become a member and the cost involved. The commission discussed having a video available on the website to give an overview of the Club and their activities, etc. that people could view. Vice -Chair Brio volunteered to put that together if video clips could be sent to them. Brian Chwan added that the City has a very good relationship with, and is very supportive of the Club, and they will continue to assist them in any way they can. 7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: a. Focus Posts for Social Media — Vice -Chair Brio stated that he will be doing a brief interview next week with Christine Hunt to introduce the older adult activities at the East Anaheim Community Center to area residents. Earthquake Program & Supplies — Chair Barnes brought one of the emergency kits that she picked up at the food bank to share with the commissioners. Vice -Chair Brio stated this this would be a good conversation for next month when the Fire & Rescue representative is here, to see what items they may have available to share with residents in case of an emergency. Commissioner Sanchez noted that residents usually will need to be self-sufficient for the first 72 hours before assistance will become available. 8. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: a. Mandated Biannual Lobbyist Survey — Brian Chwan distributed some materials explaining the necessity to complete the survey to the commissioners and they discussed how to identify lobbyists. b. ASCC Centenarians — Commissioner Rose explained that the Anaheim Senior Citizen Club has lifetime members; to qualify they need to be paying members for five years before their 901" birthday. They also have 71 members who will turn 100 over the next 10 years, and they have another member who is 102 and still driving. She shared that long-time volunteer Irving Schwartz turned 100 on March 111" and they will celebrate him at the membership luncheon on the 281". She also mentioned that this week Congressman Lou Correa is in Washington D.C. and recognizing Irving Schwartz on the House floor. After discussion, it was decided that city staff would work with the City Council office to get a proclamation prepared for Mr. Schwartz. c. Chair Barnes requested to have disaster preparedness agendized for the next meeting. Vice - Chair Brio suggested that perhaps the representative from Fire & Rescue could bring samples of items they have that could be made available to residents for an emergency. d. Commissioner Sanchez announced the upcoming Show off West Anaheim event hosted by WAO (West Anaheim Organization) will be held on April 251" e. Brian Chwan shared a promotional video prepared by the City Manager's Office that highlights Older Adult programs in Anaheim hosted by Vice -Chair Brio. 9. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Barnes adjourned the meeting at 3:09 p.m. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
