A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ANAHEIM DEDICATING THE
NEW POLICE FACILITY LOCATED AT 425
SOUTH HARBOR BOULEVARD TO HONOR
RETIRED CHIEF OF POLICE MARK A.
STEPHENSON
WHEREAS, Mark A. Stephenson joined the Anaheim Police
Department in 1927, when the total number of sworn officers was
fourteen; and
WHEREAS, following his service in the U.S. Navy during
World War II, Mark Stephenson returned to police duty and was
appointed Police Chief of the City of Anaheim in 1946; and
WHEREAS, for the next twenty-three years Chief Stephenson
guided the Anaheim Police Department during the dynamic growth of
the City in area and population, and upon his retirement in 1969
after 42 years of service had developed the department into a
progressive, modern agency with a widespread positive and
professional reputation; and
WHEREAS, Chief Stephenson continued his service to the
community, being elected to a term as a member of the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the city of Anaheim authorize the dedication of the new Police
Facility located at 425 S. Harbor Boulevard to honor retired Chief
of Police Mark A. Stephenson.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by the
city Council of the City of Anaheim this 2nd day of October, 1990.
