Thursday, April 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Anaheim City Hall.
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Lori Dinwiddie called the Anaheim Sister City Commission (ASCC) meeting to
order at 4:05 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026.

III. PUBLIC COMMENT

IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
MOTION: Commissioner Susan Klaren-Hatzenbuhler offered a Motion, seconded by
Treasurer Simin Heydari AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 12-0; ABSENT: Chiarina
Piazza, Jennifer Sasai, and (One Vacant Seat) that the Anaheim Sister City
Commission does hereby approve the minutes from the ASCC meeting held on
January 26, 2026, as presented.

V. APPROVAL OF TREASURER'S REPORT
MOTION: No changes since last meeting.
VI. APPROVAL OF MOVING JUNE 22, 2026, MEETING TO JUNE 29, 2026:
Commissioner James Dinwiddie offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner
Susan Klaren-Hatzenbuhler AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 12-0; ABSENT:
Chiarina Piazza, Jennifer Sasai, and (One Vacant Seat) that the Anaheim Sister City
Commission does hereby approve the updated June 29, 2026 meeting date as
presented.
VH. STUDENT EXCHANGE CALENDAR
Staff Member Kimberly Kelemen reported that student training sessions are ready to
be scheduled and will consist of four 2-hour courses. Once availability is confirmed,
the training schedule will be distributed to the commissioners.
Student Exchange Calendar
Outbound - June 19 — July 2, 2026
Inbound — August 14 — August 26, 2026
Staff Kimberly Kelemen requested the Commission to begin planning the inbound
Itinerary schedule and potential visit locations. Commissioner James Dinwiddie
volunteered to assist with scheduling.
VIII. DISCUSS CHAPERONE SELECTION
IX. Staff Member Kimberly Kelemen distributed the applications for the two chaperone
candidates. The City will appoint one City employee annually to serve as a
chaperone; this year's representative will be Nikki Sanduski from the Community
Services Department.
The Commission reviewed the remaining applicants, Alyssa Davis and Ron Hoshi,
and discussed selecting one additional chaperone to accompany the City
representative. After a vote from commissioners present they decided to go with Mr.
Hoshi.
Ron Hoshi — 7 votes
Alyssa Davis — 5 Votes
Ron Hoshi will be the second chaperone.
X. FUNDRAISING EFFORTS/LETTER TO BUSINESSES
Chair Lori Dinwiddie requested updates to the Sister City Commission letterhead to reflect
current commissioner names. The fundraising letter has been revised and is pending
approval by the new ACF Director.
Chair Lori Dinwiddie discussed she will also assist student ambassador Saul with
fundraising outreach and donor contacts.

XI. ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION UPDATES/TO-DO'S:
Commission Secretary Karen Harrell provided an update on behalf of Interim City Manager
Greg Garcia regarding the upcoming Sister City Anniversary celebration scheduled for
November 16-17, 2026. Planned activities include a reception and recognition at the
November 16 City Council Meeting and a visit to Disneyland Park on November 17.
The Commission discussed potential commemorative gift ideas, including artwork or
a statue.
Anniversary Celebration Subcommittee members are Commissioners Deana Helmy,
David Bracey, and Susan Klaren-Hatzenbuhler.
XII. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Commissioner Joseph Aihara inquired about chaperone hotel and travel expenses.
Staff Member Kimberly Kelemen will confirm funding details with Interim City
Manager Greg Garcia.
Simin Heydari noted that the City covered inbound chaperone expenses last year.
Vice -Chair Anthony Al -Jaime recommended purchasing airfare promptly due to
rising costs.
Commissioner Susan Klaren-Hatzenbuhler suggested putting out a flyer at the
schools of those students that were chosen to fundraise towards their trip. As for the
businesses they reach out to, helping them in return and recognizing them for
donating.
XIH. STAFF COMMENTS
Staff member Kimberly Kelemen thanked the commission for their help and
continues to encourage any and all ideas for the upcoming anniversary celebration in
November.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:05 p.m. to Tuesday, May
26, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
