CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on May 7, 2026, the regular meeting of the Anaheim
Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chair Linda Newby at 4:31 p.m.
PRESENT: Jackie Filbeck, Linda Newby, Elia Renteria-Garcia, Amanda Wortman
ABSENT: Rose Chen
STAFF: Audrey Lujan — City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx — Management Assistant II,
Scott Fretwell — Principal Librarian
I. INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS — Linda presented
Amanda Wortman with a Library Board Certificate of Recognition for her time and effort in
choosing Anaheim's next Poet Laureate.
A. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: None.
B. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: None.
C. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: The 29th APLF Mystery
Authors Luncheon was held on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Funds raised at the event support
library programs. The 30th Annual Mystery Authors Luncheon will be held on Sunday,
April 25, 2027, and Nancy Cole Sivlerman will be the moderator. The Foundation will meet
with Library staff in May to consider funding for Fiscal Year 2026/27.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE APRIL 13, 2026, MEETING: The minutes were approved as
presented.
III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY PARKS PASS PROGRAM: Scott Fretwell presented
information on the collaboration between State Parks and the California State Library.
These State -funded park passes cover parking for over 200 California State parks and
beaches and are available for checkout from all Anaheim Libraries. Backpacks are also
available for checkout with binoculars, hiking poles, etc. The Anaheim Public Library has
saved patrons over $160,000 in parking fees through these passes.

V. INFORMATION
A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
• The partnership with AESD to support literacy for students, maximize the use of our
APL online resources, and raise reading scores has been successful. The Library and
AESD will be holding a reading challenge for AESD students. The district will fund a
special edition library card for students who participate in the challenge.
• Staff is working to schedule programs for the Summer Reading programs in conjunction
with the APL/Public Works Anti -Litter Initiative. Programs will include STEAM
workshops, visits from the Aquarium of the Pacific, and more, funded by a grant from
Public Works.
B. BUDGET: Additional funding for the Haskett Branch Library roof and the Sunkist HVAC is
being allotted to cover the gap in funding between the actual cost of the projects and grant
funding received for the projects.

A. STATISTIC SANFOGRAPHIC S/ACTIVITY REPORTS: None.
VII. BOARD ITEMS
MEMBER AMANDA WORTMAN: Is impressed with the social media campaign and artwork for
National Library Week.
MEMBER ELIA RENTERIA-GARICA: None.
MEMBER JACKIE FILBECK: The school district has a parking lot nearby that the library could use
for overflow parking for large programs.
CHAIR LINDA NEWBY: Thanked the Friends for funding trackless train rides at Ponderosa Joint -
Use Branch Library and appreciates the funding Anaheim Public Library receives from support
groups.

A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be June 8, 2026, at the Central Library.
B. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Newby adjourned the meeting at 5:06 p.m.
