Older Adults 2026/05/21MINUTES OLDER ADULTS COMMISSION 250 E. Center Street. Anaheim, CA May 21, 2026 - 2:00 p.m. COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: STAFF PRESENT: Denise Barnes, Chair Brian Chwan, Community Services Superintendent Steve Brio, Vice Chair Beth Lapkowski, Administrative Assistant Sue Baltazar Frances Noteboom GUESTS PRESENT: Irene Rose Council Member Natalie Meeks, D6 Bob Sanchez AGENDA ACTION TAKEN 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Barnes called the meeting to order at 2:03 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Noteboom led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: Chair Barnes presented the minutes of the April 16, 2026, meeting. Vice -Chair Brio made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Commissioner Noteboom. Chair Barnes accepted the minutes as presented. 4. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: a. Resident Melody Marler stated that she will be attending a conference "Meeting of the Minds" which brings together mental health and substance abuse professionals and agencies, plans to attend workshops, and will bring information she learns back to the Commission. b. Resident Rochi Schmidt inquired how to get a map of vacant land in Anaheim and asked why seniors are always pushed aside. Commissioner Noteboom suggested that perhaps Sergio Ramirez could come to a meeting to speak to the question of vacant land in Anaheim. 5. SCHEDULED COMMUNICATION: a. Council Member Meeks spoke with the Commission about the search for a dedicated space or spaces for older adults and answered questions from the Commissioners. 6. NEW BUSINESS: a. Senior Outreach & County Information — Commissioner Rose found a list of resources available in the County, and she discussed with Maureen Richardson whether it would be helpful to pull out the Anaheim items from the list. She also likes the idea of Vice -Chair Brio's videos and Council Member Maah's idea of coffee or perhaps lemonade in the park to disperse information. Brian Chwan noted that this information can be added to information that has been compiled by Fire & Rescue and Utilities to create an all -encompassing list. Older Adults Commission May 21, 2026 Page 2 AGENDA 7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: ACTION TAKEN a. Focus Posts for Social Media - OCNC — Brian Chwan noted that this is the 501" Anniversary of the Oak Canyon Nature Center so it's a great time for a social media post and they are happy to collaborate. b. Webpage Updates & Suggestions — Maureen Richardson stated that they were able to put the refrigerator emergency information packet on the Older Adults page of the City website, and also added a link to a list of city resources on the page as well. The Commission discussed ways to disseminate information using social media. 8. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: a. Chair Barnes suggested commissioners put the City Council Open Houses on their calendars. 9. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Barnes adjourned the meeting at 3:21 p.m. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
