A 'RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CI'T'Y
OF ANAHEIM EXPRESSING ITS SUPPORT FOR THE
NATIONAL SPACE INSTITU^lE/AMERICAN SPACE
INSTITUTE IN ITS EFFORTS 'ID ESTABLISH AN IN-
^1ERIM AND PERMANENT FACILITY IN THE CITY OF
ANAHEIM.
1.
WHEREAS, the Anaheim Redevelopment Agency has expressed
an interest in cooperating witiz National Space Institute and
American Space Institute in its efforts to locate a California
Space Information Center facility in the City's downtown Redevel-
opment Project Alpha; and
WHEREAS, said facility is intended to provide historic,
educational and cultural programs regarding the past, present and
future applications of space technology; and
WHEREAS, the Anaheim Redevelopment Agency entered into
an Exclusive Right to Negotiate Agreement with American Space In-
stitute on march 1, 1976, for the purpose of negotiating a Dispo-
sition and Development Agreement for the construction of said
facilities; and
WHEREAS, these negotiations are well underway and the
project has been publicly announced by both the Agency and National
Space Institute; and
WHEREAS, the Agency is considering a redirection of its
policies concerning the downtown portion of Redevelopment Project
Alpha with increased emphasis on residential redevelopment and a
lesser emphasis on tourist related commercial activities; and
WHEREAS, the City and American Space Institute both
recognize the need to provide the opportunity -to dertlonstrate the
benefits and future applications of space research and development
to the American public; and to acknowledge the contributions -that
the space program has provided our Nation in such areas as cor�uuuni-
cations, weather forecasting, earth resource observations, health
care, education, and thousands of new products and services which
we enjoy today; and to honor the men, women and industries which
are located here in Southern California, the heart of the State
aerospace complex; and
WHEREAS, the City and American Space Institute agree
that the City of Anaheim is an ideal location to offer residents
and tourists the opportunity to visit the California Space Informa-
tion Center in order to educate, entertain, thrill, stimulate,
excite and inspire people of all ages about the past, present and
future of America in space; and
WHEREAS, the City and National Space Institute/American
Space Institute further agree that the Disneyland -Convention
Center -Stadium recreational/comamercial area is the most appropriate
area in the City for such a facility to establish a permanent his-
torical record of our country's great achievements and future
explorations in space; and

WHEREAS, relocation of the California Space Information
Center Project from the Redevelopment Project area to the recrea-
tional/commercial area will extend the time required to develop
a permanent facility; and
WHEREAS, many exhibits available through the Smithsonian
Institute, NASA, and several aerospace companies will be lost to
the City and American Space Institute unless a permanent location
is made available in the immediate future, and that to accomplish
this, an interim facility on a long term lease (until a permanent
facility can be constructed) will suffice.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Anaheim hereby pledges its full support and coopera-
tion to National Space Institute/American Space Institute in their
endeavor to establish both an interim facility and a permanent
facility in the City of Anaheim.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that City staff members:
1. Negotiate a rental agreement satisfactory to both
parties for an interim facility at the Anaheim Convention Center
for consideration by the City Council at the earliest possible
date, and
2. Support and cooperate with American Space Institute on
the development of a permanent California Space Information Center
facility to be located in the recreational/conLniercial area of the
City.

this 14th day of September, 1976.
