Library 2026/07/13ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINT TTES MEETING LOCATION Central Library 500 W. Broadway Anaheim, CA 92805 DATE/TIME July 13, 2026 4:30 p.m. CALL TO ORDER — The agenda having been posted on July 9, 2026, the regular meeting of the Anaheim Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Jackie Filbeck at 4:30 p.m. PRESENT: Jessica Chesebro, Jackie Filbeck, Elia Renteria-Garcia, Amanda Wortman, Billie Joe Wright STAFF: Audrey Lujan — City Librarian, Jennifer Foxx — Management Assistant II, Donald Hilliard — Library Technology Systems Administrator I. INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATION FROM OTHERS: A. ADMINISTER OATH TO LIBRARY BOARD MEMBERS JESSICA CHESEBRO AND BILLIE JOE WRIGHT: The Oath of Affirmation of Allegiance for Public Office and Employees was administered to Jessica Chesebro and Billie Joe Wright. B. FRIENDS OF THE ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT: The June book sale made over $543.00. Their next sale is July 17, 2026. The Friends are sponsoring refreshments for the Patriotic Celebration by NOCE's Chime Choir at Central Library on July 18, 2026. They were awarded a $1,000 grant from Stater Brothers. Several of the Friends signed up for the adult Summer Reading Program, and they would like to see more prizes offered for adults. C. FRIENDS OF THE CANYON HILLS LIBRARY: They were featured in the new Anaheim Hills News Magazine. Their Facebook page has 667 followers. The next Flash Sale is July 27-28, 2026. D. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION REPORT: They granted $80,000 in funding requests for programs for the Library for Fiscal Year 2026/2027. The Board will explore additional fundraising opportunities. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JUNE 9, 2026, MEETING: The minutes were approved as presented. III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None. IV. NEW BUSINESS: A. AESD READING CHALLENGE PARTNERSHIP DATA: Donald Hilliard shared the baseline statistics for Anaheim Public Library usage from Anaheim Elementary School District students. These statistics will serve as the baseline to measure the effectiveness of the Reading Challenge Partnership that will begin in the new school year. ELECTION OF CHAIR: MOTION: That the Library Board nominate and elect Jackie Filbeck as Chair of the Library Board for a term through July 2027. MIS: ER/AW, 5 ayes. C. ELECTION OF VICE CHAIR: MOTION: That the Library Board nominate and elect Amanda Wortman as Vice Chair of the Library Board for a term through July 2027. MIS: ERBJW, 5 ayes. D. ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL ON THE CONDITION OF THE LIBRARIES FOR FISCAL YEAR 2025/26 PER ARTICLE IX. APPOINTIVE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS, SECTION 908: The Library Board will consider what the report should focus on. V. INFORMATION A. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: • The APL/Public Works Anti -Litter Initiative has been successful. Public Works is sponsoring many of the Summer Reading Programs, including the Big Vehicle Petting Zoo that was hosted at several APL locations. They also purchased book bags, and other prizes as reading incentives for patrons. B. BUDGET: The Library is receiving additional funding from the City for the Haskett Branch Library roof, Sunkist Branch Library HVAC, and a loan to purchase RFID Tags. VI. ACTIVITY REPORTS A. STATISTIC SANFOGRAPHIC S/ACTIVITY REPORTS: None. VII. BOARD ITEMS MEMBER ELIA RENTERIA-GARCIA: None. MEMBER AMANDA WORTMAN: Reported that the Asylum Reading Ward Book Club has grown to almost 30 people. MEMBER BILLIE JOE WRIGHT: Thanked the staff for being so welcoming and informative. He looks forward to working with everyone on the Board. MEMBER JESSICA CHESEBRO: Echoed Billie Joe's comments. MEMBER JACKIE FILBECK: Welcomed the new Board Members. VIII, MISCELLANEOUS A. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be August 10, 2026, at the Central Library. B. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Filbeck adjourned the meeting at 5:49 p.m.
