1968-026RESOLUTION NO. 68p- 26
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM ENDORSING THE STATEMENT PRESENTED
BY THE ORANGE COUNTY WATER DISTRICT TO THE
ASSEMBLY WATER COMMITTEE RECOMMENDING THAT
THERE BE NO CHANGES IN THE METROPOLITAN WATER
DISTRICT ACT AT THIS TIME.
WHEREAS, Anaheim, as one of the thirteen original
cities organizing the Metropolitan Water District of Southern
California (known as MWD), has long been concerned with an
adequate and reasonably priced supply of supplemental water to
Southern California; and
WHEREAS, MWD has developed into the largest water
supply and distribution agency of its kind within the United
States; and
WHEREAS, one of the original objectives for the
organization of MWD has been achieved in the development of an
adequate supply of supplemental water as the cornerstone for
growth of the area around the City of Los Angeles to assure
that metropolis of an ever-expanding economy; and
WHEREAS, no portion of the service area of MWD has
suffered from a lack of supplemental water; and
WHEREAS, MWD's assurance of an adequate and reasonably
priced supply of supplemental water has been, and continues to
be, a crucial factor affecting the growth of Anaheim and other
member cities in Orange County; and
WHEREAS, a major portion of the tax burden of MWD
has been shifted from the City of Los Angeles to the other
rapidly growing portions of MWD, such as Anaheim and member
cities in Orange County; and
WHEREAS, this outstanding record has been achieved
under policies established by the Board of Directors of MWD
under present legislation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Anaheim that Anaheim strongly endorses the statement
presented by the Orange County Water District to the Assembly
