AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM AMENDING
TITLE 4, CHAPTER 4.04, BY ADDING THERETO
SECTION 4.04.145 OF THE ANAHEIM MUNICIPAL
CODE RELATING TO SIGNS; DECLARING THE SAME
TO BE AN URGENCY ORDINANCE EFFECTIVE FOR
NINETY (90) DAYS ONLY.
SECTION 1.
That Title 4, Chapter 4.04,,Section 4.04.145 of the
Anaheim Municipal Code be, and the same is hereby amended by
adding thereto Section 4.04.145 to read as follows:
"SECTION 4.04.145 HOURS OF OPERATION SIGNS -
SERVICE STATIONS
Notwithstanding any other provisions of the Anaheim
Municipal Code regarding the maximum number and area
of signs permitted on any automobile service station
site,.one (1) additional sign, designed,,intended and
used to inform the motoring public of the days and
hours of operation of said service station, may be
permitted for ninety (9.0) days from and after the
effective date of this ordinance, subject to the
following conditions and limitations:
.01 Maximum Number of Signs. Not more than one (1.)
multiple faced "operations" sign may be per-
mitted on any said site. Provided, however,
that in the case of canopy signs, a maximum
of two (2) such signs may be permitted.
.02 Permitted Area. No "operations" sign shall ex-
ceed an area of nine (9) square feet per face,
with no single dimensions exceeding three (3)
lineal feet in length.
.03 Permitted Location. Any outdoor sign shall be
either mounted on the same support'as the price
or company logo sign located on said site, or
affixed or suspended beneath the pump island
canopy. Provided, however,.that the minimum
height of the lowest portion of any such sign
shall be not less than eight (8) feet above the
ground level of said site.
.04 Permitted Sign Copy. Copy shall be limited to
providing notice of the days and hours said
service station is open for pumping of gasoline
and servicing automobiles. Provided, however,,
the current prices charged for motor fuelsmay
also be posted on said sign.
.05 Flags. In lieu of, ,or in conjunction with
"operations" signs as specified herein, .a
maximum of three (3.) flags, color coded in
accordance with the provision of the
California mandatory Marketing Plan, i.e.
Green Flag - gasoline available for the

general public, Yellow Flag - gasoline avail-
able for emergency vehicles only, Red Flag -
out of gasoline and/or closed, may be
posted anywhere on the site, provided how-
ever that no such flags shall be located so
as to obstruct traffic or create a sight
hazard to motorists or pedestrians."
SECTION 2.
The City Council hereby declares that this ordinance
is necessary as an emergency measure for the immediate preser-
vation of the public peace, health and safety. The reasons for
the urgency of this ordinance are as follows: The gasoline
energy crisis has forced the price of gasoline to fluctuate
rapidly/ many service stations are closed at least part of the
time, ,long lines of automobiles waiting for gasoline exist
causing serious traffic hazards to moving vehicles and pedes-
trians, the gas rationing has effected the morale of the citi-
zens, price signs need posting to inform the public of the
price being charged and the hours of operation, the public is
alarmed,.and confusion and panic buying exists. In order to
inform and protect the citizens of the city, the immediate
need exists to permit the current price of motor fuel and
hours of operation be posted at service stations to prevent
confusion, panic, traffic hazards and breach of the public
peace.
SECTION 3.
The Anaheim City Council hereby declares that should
any section, paragraph,,sentence or word of this ordinance be
declared for any reason to be invalid, itis the intent of the
City Council that it would have passed all other portions of
this ordinance independent of the elimination herefrom of any
such portion as may be declared invalid.
SECTION 4.
The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this
ordinance and shall cause the same to be printed once within
fifteen (15) days after its adoption,,in the Anaheim Bulletin,
a newspaper of general circulation, printed, published and
circulated in said City, and immediately upon and after its
passage it shall take effect and be in full force.
SECTION 5.
This ordinance shall be effective for ninety (90)
days only from and after its adoption, and shall immediately
thereafter cease and be of no other force and effect.
THE FOREGOING ORDINANCE is approved and signed by me
this 2nd day of April 1974.
