A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA,
SUPPORTING THE EXISTING
AMTRAK/COMMUTER RAIL STATION SITE
ON THE LOSSAN RAIL CORRIDOR AS THE
PREFERRED LOCATION FOR CONSTRUCTION
OF IMPROVEMENTS REQUESTED IN THE
1993/1994 REVISED TRANSIT CAPITAL
IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM APPLICATION
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim entered into an agreement
with AMTRAK on October 26, 1982, and expended an amount estimated
at $1,300,000 to construct a rail passenger station as an
integral part of the City-owned sports complex and land
contiguous thereto; and
WHEREAS, the ridership at this station has grown to
make it one of the highest ridership stations along the Los
Angeles-San Diego (LOSSAN) rail corridor; and
WHEREAS, it is expected that this station's ridership
will further increase, as the Southern California Regional Rail
Authority (SCRRA) will be increasing commuter rail service along
the LOSSAN rail corridor, starting with two additional trains in
December 1993 and increasing to nine additional trains as
ridership warrants; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim obtained a discretionary
grant from the South Coast Air Quality Management District to
implement Line 532, operated by the Orange County Transportation
Authority, to connect the rail station with major employers in
the area; and
WHEREAS, construction of a second track along the
LOSSAN corridor, planned by SCRRA for June 1994, will further
enhance commuter rail operations; and
WHEREAS, the second track construction will include
demolition of the station platform south of the existing track,
and SCRRA should provide for service during construction via a
northside platform and pedestrian underpass to connect the
station with a new northside platform to meet the requirements of
the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990; and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim has prepared concept plans
(shown on Attachment A) for these improvements as part of area
planning and Transit Capital Improvement (TCI) funding
application; and
WHEREAS, the City proposes to direct the remaining
$92,000 of awarded TCI funds towards design of the pedestrian
underpass, and to submit a revised TCI application for Fiscal
Year 1993-94 to request $765,000 for construction of a second
platform to replace the demolished platform south of the existing
track;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Anaheim that the city of Anaheim supports the
existing AMTRAK/COMMUTER rail station site on the LOSSAN rail
corridor as the preferred location for construction of
improvement requested in the 1993-94 Revised Transit Capital
Improvement Program Application.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by the
City Council of the City of Anaheim this 22nd day of
June , 1993.
