Agency to order at 1:15 P.M.
MINUTES On motion by Mrs. Kaywood, seconded by Mr. Bay, minutes of the
Redevelopment Agency Adjourned Regular Meeting held October 29, 1980, and
regular meetings held November 12 and 25, 1980, were approved. Agency

meetings. MOTION CARRIED.

of $76,158.15, in accordance with the 1980 -81 Budget, were approved. WNW
161.123: APPROVAL OF PRELIMINARY PLANS - KING OF CALIFORNIA: The Executive
Director reported that in accordance with provisions of the Disposition and
Development Agreement between the Redevelopment Agency and King of Califor-
nia, preliminary plans had been submitted for development of the 2300 -seat
theatre proposed at the northwest corner of Broadway and Philadelphia Streets
and said plans were posted in the Council Chambers for review. The plans
were prepared in accordance with the Redevelopment Plan, and the theatre
would be compatible with the Civic Center complex adjacent to the north.
The City Planning Commission had taken action on the plans in connection
with their public hearing on the necessary zone change for the property,
and the Community Redevelopment Commission would be requested to approve
said plans on December 3, 1980.
Mr. Roth moved that preliminary plans submitted for the proposed theatre
be approved. Mrs. Kaywood seconded the motion.
In response to question by Mr. Roth, Mr. Leo Freedman, King of California,
reported that he needed Agency approval before he could obtain financing
for the project: that he intended to personally invest up to one million
dollars, and he hoped to see the theatre completed and ready to open by
December 1981. He called attention to his record in connection with his
previous development of the Melodyland Theatre in this city and stated
that the formal groundbreaking would constitute a commitment to the on=*
best theatre productions in the country.

ANAHEIM REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY DECEMBER 2 1980 1:00 P.M.
In reply to Mrs. Kaywood's question about the possibility of a restaurant
facility in the theatre, Mr. Freedman advised that there would be 30,000
square feet of space underground in the theatre which would be ample for
a restaurant, which was very desirable.
Mr. Priest pointed out that when the restaurant query was discussed at
the Planning Commission hearing, it was noted that parking provisions
would need to be re- examined if a restaurant were proposed, due to the
differences in the Anaheim Municipal Code parking requirements for
theatres and restaurants.
The previous motion to approve the preliminary plans for the proposed
theatre was re- stated. MOTION CARRIED.
Responding to suggestion by Mr. Bay, Mr. Priest stated he would contact
the appropriate City staff concerning the possible renaming of that
brief section of Claudina Street running north from Broadway, to 42nd Street.
161.158: RELOCATION CLAIMS AGAINST THE CITY No relocation claims
pending over a ninety -day period were reported.
ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Anaheim
Redevelopment Agency, Mr. Overholt moved to adjourn. Mrs. Kaywood
seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED.
