AGENDA ACTION TAKEN
1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission was called to order by Chair Larsen
at 6:37 p.m.
2. UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: Representatives from the Anaheim Arts Council gave an update
to the Commission about upcoming events.
3. PRESENTATION: Larry Rosenberg from the Anaheim Ballet spoke to the Commission about the International
Dance Festival coming to Anaheim in early August.
4. BOARD VACANCY: Cathy noted that there is a vacancy on the board due to the assignment to the Community
Services Board of Commissioner Santoianni; City Council will most likely appoint a new member at their next
meeting on July 22
5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Deneau made a motion to approve the minutes for the June 17, 2010
meeting; Commissioner Jabbar made a second and the motion passed.
6. D.T.C.C. ART GALLERY SUBCOMMITTEE: Chair Larsen reported they will have a subcommittee meeting on
the upcoming Monday. Commissioner Castillo reported that CIM agreed to allow use of one of their spaces for
an art gallery; however, they want to charge $.75 per square foot for maintenance costs, and with a minimum of
1500 square feet, that would be $1,125 monthly which is cost - prohibitive.
7. ART FACILITIES SUBCOMMITTEE: Commissioner Deneau reported that he spoke with City Clerk's office
regarding whether or not Mr. Santoianni could still be involved in this subcommittee now that he has been
appointed to the Community Services Board; they indicated that he could, but he could not vote on items any
longer. Mr. Santoianni indicated that he would like to continue his work on the subcommittee. Commissioner
Deneau distributed a draft Report on Cultural Facilities in the City of Anaheim compiled by the subcommittee for
the commission to review. Chair Larsen discussed the attempt to have a Performing Arts Facility in the City, and
the commission discussed steps they could take to rejuvenate that process. Commissioner Jabbar suggested
that they could collect some information about other cities that have performing arts facilities and the positive
financial impact they have had.
8. INFORMATION ITEMS:
A. Commissioner Castillo Commissioner Castillo discussed the mural project that she has talked about to the
Downtown Anaheim Association and the Arts Council.

B. Commissioner Deneau Commissioner Deneau asked Cathy if she could request that Steve Swaim come in
and talk to the commission about the murals that were done in the City in the past. Cathy said she would
contact him and let the commission know his availability.
C. Commissioner Galanis Commissioner Galanis was absent.
D. Commissioner Jabbar Commissioner Jabbar reported that the Sri Lanka New Year's celebration was a big
success and they hope to continue holding it in Anaheim, and hope to introduce cricket to the city as well.
He announced that Sri Lanka Day will be held on August 7 th at the Santa Monica pier and he will be the MC.
E. Chair Larsen None.
F. Vice -Chair Maya Vice -Chair Maya was absent.
G. Staff Cathy provided a draft template for the gallery invitations to the commissioners for their review. She
also discussed some of the lighting issues that were discussed after the last gallery opening, and mentioned
that the frosted lettering is cost - prohibitive, but they may be able to find some vinyl lettering. Chair Larsen
said the lettering isn't essential as long as there is proper signage. Cathy discussed the gallery application
and said she will send it to John so he can transfer it to PDF format.
Jane said that Founders Park is out to bid and they hope to begin construction mid - September and
complete by the end of January 2011. She also reported that the Historical Society will hold a barbeque
Saturday at the Eastman house.
9. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown
Community Center, 250 E. Center Street, Anaheim.
10. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Larsen adjourned the meeting at 8:29 p.m.
