A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ANAHEIM AUTHORIZING THE
COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
DIRECTOR TO SUBMIT A GRANT PROPOSAL
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF ANAHEIM TO
THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE,
OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, FOR
FUNDS FROM THE OFFICE OF JUVENILE
JUSTICE AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION
- JUVENILE MENTORING PROGRAM (JUMP)
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim desires to expand the
City's Mentoring Program for junior high school-aged youth; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of
Justice Programs, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency
Prevention is making funds available through its Juvenile
Mentoring Program (JUMP) to support one-to-one mentoring programs
for youths at risk of educational failure, dropping out of
school, or involvement in delinquent activities including gangs;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Anaheim desires to apply for funds
from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
Juvenile Mentoring Program (JUMP) to enhance the City's Mentoring
Program which presently serves approximately twenty (20) girls
from Sycamore Junior High School. The Mentoring Program will be
expanded to serve approximately seventy (70) junior high school-
age girls and boys throughout Anaheim.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Anaheim as follows:
1. The Director of the Community Services Department of
the City of Anaheim is hereby authorized, on behalf of
the City of Anaheim, to submit an application and
proposal for funds from the Office of Juvenile Justice
and Delinquency Prevention - Juvenile Mentoring Program
(JUMP) in an amount up to $190,000 for a total project
and budget period of three years.
2. The City of Anaheim acknowledges that there are no
matching funds required.
3. The Grant funds received hereunder shall be used for
personnel expenditures, and for supplies, equipment,
and other operating costs to support the expansion of
the City of Anaheim's Mentoring Program. Funds will be
used to supplement and not to supplant local funding.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by the City
Council of the City of Anaheim this 10th day of SePtember, 1996.
