2010/12/07ANAHEIM CITY COUNCIL DECEMBER 7, 2010 REGULAR ADJOURNED MEETING OF NOVEMBER 16, 2010 AND REGULAR MEETING OF DECEMBER 7, 2010 The City Council regular adjourned meeting of November 16, 2010 was called to order at 4:06 P.M. on December 7, 2010 in the Chambers of Anaheim City Hall located at 200 South Anaheim Boulevard. A copy of the agenda was posted on December 3, 2010 on the kiosk outside City Hall. PRESENT: Mayor Curt Pringle and Council Members: Lorri Galloway, Bob Hernandez, Lucille Kring and Harry Sidhu. STAFF PRESENT: City Manager Tom Wood, City Attorney Cristina Talley, and City Clerk Linda Andal Invocation: Pastor Tino Suffi, Vineyard Anaheim Flag Salute: Council Member Lucille Kring ADDITIONSIDELETIONS TO THE AGENDAS: None PUBLIC COMMENTS (all agenda items except public hearings): William Fitzgerald, resident, addressed his comments to the outgoing and incoming Anaheim elected officials. David Peng, AMEA, thanked the exiting council members for their hard work and dedication and looked forward to continuing the dialogue with the new makeup of the City Council. Jim Adams, Building Industry Trade Council, expressed his appreciation and thanks to the outgoing Mayor and Council Members for their services and support over the years. James Robert Reade, resident, recommended Ruby's Five Points Drive -In, thanking City officials for their vision and Bill Taormina for his commitment to celebrate Anaheim's history and renaissance of the downtown area. Eric Altman, OCCORD, also expressed his appreciation to the outgoing Mayor and Council Members for their service to the community. Carolyn Bryant, Library Services Division, recognized Mayor Pringle and Council Members Hernandez and Kring for their support of library services during their tenure. CONSENT CALENDAR: Council Member Hernandez then moved to waive reading in full of all ordinances and resolutions and to adopt the consent calendar in accordance with the reports, certifications and recommendations furnished each council member and as listed on the balance of the consent calendar, seconded by Council Member Kring. RESOLUTION NO. 2010 -210 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF E127 THE CITY OF ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA reciting the fact of the General Municipal Election held on November 2, 2010,declaring the results and such other matters as provide by law. At 4:23 P.M., Mayor Pringle adjourned November 16, 2010 regular adjourned meeting to the regular meeting of December 7, 2010 held at the Heritage Forum for purposes of administering the Oaths of Office. ANAHEIM CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING OF DECEMBER 7, 2010 HELD AT HERITAGE FO R U M, 201 E. BROADWAY The City Council regular meeting of December 7, 2010 was called back into order by Mayor Pro Tem Sidhu at 5:08 P.M. in the Heritage Forum located at 201 E. Broadway, Anaheim, California for the purpose of administering the oaths of office to Anaheim's newly elected Mayor and Council Members. INVOCATION: Father Seamus Anthony Glynn, San Antonio Catholic Church FLAG SALUTE: Council Member Lucille Kring OATH OF OFFICE The three newly elected officials, surrounded by family and friends, were each administered the oath of office, individually, by Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle before undertaking their official duties as Mayor and Council Members of the City of Anaheim. Council Member Gail Eastman Council Member Kris Murray Mayor Tom Tait Mayor Tait took this opportunity to thank his family, friends and volunteers for their support and commitment during the election campaign. He recognized the economic challenges the City faced and the real needs of the community facing double digit unemployment figures. He thanked residents for sharing their concerns and ideas stating he would begin his service to the City stressing core values, freedom and kindness as he worked to overcome those challenges. Council Member Gail Eastman also thanked her family and friends, supporters, and volunteers for providing valuable campaign assistance. Moving into an old house in the downtown area, she had become involved in the creation of Anaheim's first historic district which led to her interest in joining the Planning Commission and other boards and commissions. She looked forward to continuing her interest in working with residents dedicated to improving neighborhoods. Development of business resources was also an important goal of hers and to that end; she was committed to attracting a Trader Joe's market to Anaheim, a recommendation often suggested by residents. Remarking on Anaheim's history as a mecca for entrepreneurs, she would encourage pursuing and attracting those types of businesses to the City. Council Meeting Minutes of December 7, 2010 (adjourned meeting of November 16, 2010) Page 3 of 3 Council Member Kris Murray thanked her family for their patience throughout the campaign and the voters and supporters for their trust and confidence in her. Her focus would be on retaining the quality of life Anaheim residents enjoyed and to build upon it. She was committed to working with community leaders to address their concerns, cherish Anaheim's heritage, and to work to thrive in the 21 st century by continuing to improve the business climate to grow long- term stable sources of revenue. She was cognizant of the legacy left to her as a new council member, thanking those that had gone before her and remarking she would work tirelessly to retain Anaheim's competitive advantage. COUNCIL COMMENTS Mayor Pro Tem Sidhu recognized former Council Members Bob Hernandez and Lucille Kring for their service and dedication and Mayor Pringle for his vision, remarking he had enjoyed working together to make a difference in the City. Council Member Galloway remarked it had been an honor to serve with her former colleagues and welcomed the new Council Members with their fresh energy and focus.
