A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ANAHEIM RECOGNIZING CITY EMPLOYEES IN THE
CLASSIFICATIONS OF DETENTION FACILITIES
MANAGER, BAILIFF, SENIOR DETENTION OFFICER
AND DETENTION OFFICER AS CORRECTIONAL
OFFICERS AND DESIGNATING THESE PERSONNEL AS
PEACE OFFICERS, SUBJECT TO CERTAIN CONDITIONS
WHEREAS, certain personnel employed in the operation of
the City's detention facilities qualify for the designation of
correctional officer under the provisions of Penal Code section
830.55; and
WHEREAS, such correctional officers are designated as
peace officers under the provisions of the Penal Code,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Anaheim as follows:
1. City employees in the classifications of detention
facilities manager, bailiff, senior detention officer and
detention officer are hereby recognized as correctional officers
and are designated as peace officers under the laws of the State
of California subject to fulfilling the following requirements.
2. The designation of the detention facilities manager,
bailiffs, senior detention officers and detention officers as
correctional officers shall not be effective unless and until:
A. Each such officer has completed the required
training prescribed by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards
and Training; and
B. The Police Department has adopted and instructed
such officers in rules and regulations regarding the use,
possession and carrying of firearms while on and off duty.
THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION is approved and adopted by the
City Council of the City of Anaheim this 24th day of April ,
2001.
