Center St., Anaheim, CA Thursday,July21,2011;6:30 p.m. COMMISSIONERS PRESENTSTAFF PRESENT Alone Larsen, ChairCathy Glasgow,CommunityServicesSuperintendent Chris Maya, Vice-Chair Jane Newell, Heritage Services Manager Erin Benedict Kelly Castillo Andrew Deneau Alkamalee Jabbar COMMISSIONERSABSENT Konstantinos Roditis (Excused) A G E N D AA C T I O N T A K E N 1.CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of the Cultural and Heritage Commission was called to order by Chair Larsen at 6:50p.m. 2.UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMUNICATION:None. 3.CORRESPONDENCE: Community Services Superintendent Cathy Glasgow distributed copies of a letter sent on June 20, 2011 to former Commissioner Galanisrecognizingand thanking her for her service to the Commission. The Commissioners signed a personalized card of appreciation to be mailed on July22, 2011. 4.APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Vice-Chair Maya made a motion to approve the minutes for the June 16, 2011 meeting; Commissioner Jabbarmade a second and the motion passed. 5.GALLERIES SUBCOMMITTEE: Vice-Chair Mayadiscussed the conceptual layout for the upcoming Center Gallery exhibit by Dan Benedict and requested that the two large display cases be relocated to the DACC hallway for this exhibit. Staff will measure to assurethat a 10 foot access way would be maintained with this configuration. Cathy Glasgow distributed two new submissions by artistsfrom the e-application site. Vice-Chair Mayaled a discussion about hosting anAnaheim artist group show in the future. 6.EVENTS SUB-COMMITTTEE: CommissionerBenedict reported on the flyers for the upcoming Art Crawl Experience (ACE) on August 13, 2011.Chair Larsen discussed the menu for the ‘Pacing’ artist reception for Jay Merryweather. 7.ART FACILITIES SUBCOMMITTEE: Commissioner Deneau reported that he is revising the Art Facilities report to City Council,then will distribute for input from the Commission and bring it back to an upcoming meeting. 8.ARTIC REVIEW COMMITTEE: Chair Larsen then reported that the committeehas reviewed 73 applications and that she just finished completing the required qualifications spreadsheet. Shewill update the Commission as the process continues. 6.INFORMATION ITEMS: A.Commissioner Benedict:CommissionerBenedicthad no additional items. Commissioner Castillo:Commissioner Castillo had no additional items. B. Commissioner Deneau:Commissioner Deneau had no additional items. C. D.Commissioner Jabbar:Commissioner Jabbar reported on the recent movie night at Ponderosa Park with over 180 youth and parents. Everyone enjoyed the event. Commissioner Jabbar discussed a request from a local youth group to paint a mural on the Ponderosa Park parking lot wall at the end of August 2011. F.Chair Larsen:Chair Larsenreported on the schedule of events for the upcoming ‘Anaheim International Dance Festival 2011’ hosted by the Anaheim Ballet on August 12 -14, 2011.Chair Larsenalso reported on the Chance Theatre’s production of “Jerry Springer, the Opera,”which will be running through August 7, 2011. Chair Larsenstated that she will be attending the upcoming Redevelopment Agency’s Downtown Task Force meeting regarding the progress on the Packing House. G.Vice-ChairMaya:Vice-Chair Maya requested an update on the Center Gallery signage from staff. Cathy Glasgowreported that she is working on obtaining cost estimates and hopes to have something in the next few weeks to send out to the Commission. Vice-Chair Mayareported that David Kooi is mid-process on the new interior sign holder for the Gallery. Vice-Chair Mayaalso reported on the successful Opening event held for the Brewery. H.Staff:Heritage Services Manager Jane Newell reported on the plans for the Founders’ Park Dedication to be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011,at 10 a.m. The exterior fence went down today, July 21. There will be patriotic decorations including bunting and flags. There will also be photograph opportunities for the Commission around the historic City seal.Cathy Glasgow requested clarification from the Commission on the timing for the next artist’s reception on August 13. After discussion, the Commission determined that the time would be 6:30 p.m. –8:30 p.m. 7.NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be held on Thursday,August 18, 2011,at 6:30 p.m. 8.ADJOURNMENT: Chair Larsen adjourned the meeting at 8:35p.m.
