West Street, Anaheim, CA 92801 SEPTEMBER 28, 2011 MINUTES COMMISSIONERS PRESENT:Chairman Crawfordand Vice Chair Manes Commissioners Brennan, Huitt and Vadodaria COMMISSIONER EXCUSED:Commissioner Lappin and Navarro STAFF PRESENT:Larry Pasco -Parks Manager, Pamela Galera -Principle Project Planner, Sjany Larson-Cash, CS Superintendent,Sammy Hudson -Intern Gail Barruga –Admin.Assistant CALL TO ORDER–Chairman Crawfordcalled the meetingto order at 5.30p.m. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE–Chairman Crawfordled the Pledge of Allegiance. INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATIONS–Sjany Larson-Cash, in attendance on behalf of Lynn Smith,introduced Sammy Hudson, a student intern from Cal State Fresno. Ms. Hudson has been working in the department since August and will continue until the end of November. She has been assistingin the Recreation Section,learning about programs and operations. APPROVAL OF MINUTES–Chairman Crawfordpresented the August 24, 2011 Minutes to the Commissioners forchanges or corrections. There being none, Chairman Crawfordaccepted the minutes as presented. ACTIVITY REPORTS A.ParksActivity Report:Larry Pascopresented the report and answered questions from the commissioners. Larry reported on the placement of full time staff affected by the privatization of the park maintenance. He stated several employees retired and allofthe remaining full time park maintenance workers were placed in openpositions within the Public Works department. B.Parks Capital Project Progress Report–Pamela Galera presented the report and provided updates on the following projects: Anaheim Coves(Burris Basin)–The dedication ceremony will be on November 15, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. Cerritos Property–This project has been placed on the “short list” for the Prop 84 grant. On October 4, th State grant staff will interview our staff on this project. Platinum Necklace (Connectivity Plan)–Meetings continue with a wide variety of groups throughout the community discussing this project. Founders’ Park–Staff is requesting alot line adjustment to rezone and combine the five parcels that make up the park into one parcel. Additionally, staff will be applying to the Historical Register for the two homes on the site. ï ×ÌÛÓ ÒÑò ðï Park and Recreation Commission Minutes September 28, 2011 Guinida Lane–Through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) fund the city has received $250,000 to develop a pocket park on this site. The first of several community meetings is on October 4, 2011. Ponderosa Community Center–As with the Cerritos Park project, this project has been placed on the “short list” for the Proposition 84 grant application. The interview with State grant staff will be on October 4, 2011. C.Senior Citizen Sub-Committee Report-Commissioner Huitt reported that severalitemsdiscussed during her sub-committee’s meeting with Lynn and staff,wereresolved at the Downtown Anaheim Community Center. NEW BUSINESS A.Miraloma Park Final Master Plan –Pamela introduced the representatives from OsbornArchitects–Michael Pinto, Design Principal and Kate Harvey, Landscape and Urban Designer. Pamela stated that both Michael and Kate were instrumental in the City of Anaheim receiving the grant for this project. Ms. Harvey made a presentation reviewing the various amenities and building use areas of the master plan for the Miraloma Park property. Many of the suggestions came from the neighbors who attended the numerous community meetings. Ms. Harvey answered the commissioner’s questions. Chairman Crawford made a motion to accept the Master Plan as presented;Vice-Chair Manes seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS Vice Chair Manes announced the Fall Festival is on October 29 with the parade beginning at 6:00 p.m. The parade will start at Manchester and proceed down Broadway to Clementine into the Festival on Center Street Promenade. On October 30 at the Pearson Park Theatre is the 6annual Mariachi festival.Muzeo Gala is th Saturday, October 22. ADJOURNMENT–Chairman Crawfordadjourned the meeting at 6:35p.m. î
