STAFF PRESENT: Lynn Smith – Community Services Manager, Larry Pasco – Parks Manager,

CALL TO ORDER – Vice Chair Manes called the meeting to order at 5.32 p.m.

INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATIONS – Commissioner Huitt introduced
member of the Sr. Citizen Sub-Committee and the President of the Anaheim Seniors Club.

B.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES – Vice Chair Manes presented the May 23, 2012 Minutes to the Commissioners for
changes or corrections. There being none, Vice Chair Manes accepted the minutes as presented.
ACTIVITY REPORTS
A.
Recreation and Human Services Activity Report - April/May – Lynn Smith presented the report. Lynn reported on
the Cinco de Mayo Celebration, WAND Barbecue, Concerts in the Park, and West Anaheim Youth Center Youth
Program Registrations.
Commissioner Huitt stated how amazing it is to have a large number of participants in the West Anaheim Youth
Center Recreational and Fitness Programs.
Vice Chair Manes stated the Ability First Program held at Pearson Park Pool is a great program where one-to-one
treatment is received by the participants.
B.
Recreation and Human Services Park Ranger Report – May/June – Lynn Smith presented the report.
Commissioner Lappin questioned if the number of patrols is based on the number of patrons at the City facilities.
Lynn Smith stated patrols are based on the challenges raised at the different facilitieswhich may be directly
related to large numbers of patrons.

Parks Activity Report – May/June – Larry Pasco presented the new format of the Parks Activity Report.
Commissioner Huitt stated the new “No Smoking” signs that were posted at Pioneer Park are very effective and
requested that the signs be printed larger. Larry Pasco stated the size and number of signs posted at parks are
aesthetically balanced based on the activities and needs of the park.

Parks Capital Project Progress Report – Pamela Galera presented the report and provided updates on the
following projects:
Anaheim Outdoors Connectivity Plan – Staff is currently reviewing the draft document of the citywide Master
Plan of trails and walkways connecting Platinum Triangle and ARTIC to Downtown Anaheim, Canyon
Business Park and the Anaheim Resort area. Once approved by City staff, the draft document will be
released to the Task Force and the Public.
There is a possibility of extending Anaheim Coves to the north, from Lincoln Avenue to Frontera Street. This
area is called ‘Five Coves’ by the OCWD. There is no funding at this time, but grants have been identified to
apply for to develop this project. The property is owned by the OCWD, Orange County Flood Control District
and Southern California Edison. City staff is negotiating with the property owners about installing a bike path,
walking path, landscaping, seating and interpretive signage.
Paul Revere Park – There is CDBG funding to develop a pocket park in the Guinida Lane neighborhood next
to Paul Revere Elementary. A Master Plan is complete and will be presented to the community for final
approval.
Miraloma – Construction documents are in progress for the park site and community center. A community
meeting is scheduled for August 1 where a community art piece will be discussed at this meeting.

Palm Lane Playground – The playground will be replaced and upgraded.
Schweitzer Park – A grant was received and the restrooms will be renovated.
Vice Chair Manes questioned if Bike Nation is connected to City parks and bike trails. Pamela Galera stated Bike
Nation is being reviewed to be included with the Anaheim Outdoors Connectivity Plan. Pamela also stated Bike
Nation is a pilot program and the first to be installed on the West Coast. Commissioner Vadodaria requested
clarification on the Bike Nation program. Lynn Smith stated Bike Nation is an organization the City is working with
where kiosks will be installed throughout the City where you can rent a bike.
E.Commissioner Huitt reported the following:
Senior Citizen Sub-Committee Report –
Clarification of the Sr. Citizen Sub-Committee responsibilities has been requested. The three members of the
committee were previous Commissioners on the Senior Citizen Commission and would like clarification of
their role in the Sr. Citizen Sub-Committee in comparison to the role they had on the Senior Citizen
Commission that was eliminated. The committee would also like clarification if they should only be
suggesting programming to the City for Seniors. Lynn Smith will look into it.
Options Counseling was held at all three senior centers.
NEW BUSINESS - None
INFORMATIONAL ITEMS–
Vice Chair Manes announced the following:
Community Garden Events coming up in August.
Mito Japan students participating in the Sister City Commission will host a Meet and Greet event on July 28
th
at 5 p.m. and a Sayonara Dinner event on August 3rd at 6 p.m.
District Neighborhood Council meetings (South District and Central District) will be rescheduled.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is in town at the Honda Center from July 27 – August 5.

Movies in the Park on August 17 and August 24at Pearson Park.

Anaheim Ballet Stars of Tomorrow will be held at Pearson Park on August 3 and there is no cost.
