CALLTO ORDER–Chairman Crawford called the meeting to order at 5.50p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE–Chairman Crawfordled the Pledge of Allegiance.
INTRODUCTION OF VISITORS AND COMMUNICATIONS

Introduction of Community Services Supervisor, Wendy Solorio –Lynn Smith introduced Wendy Solorio as the
new Community Services Supervisor for Human Services.Wendy will now be attending Parks and Recreation
Commission meetings to address Senior Citizen topics.

B.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES–Chairman Crawford presented the July 25,2012Minutes to the Commissioners for
changes or corrections. There being none, Chairman Crawford accepted the minutes as presented.
ACTIVITY REPORTS
A.
Recreation and Human ServicesActivity Report–June/July–Lynn Smithpresented the report. Lynn reported on
the Concerts in the Park held at Ronald Reagan Park; Pearson Park Amphitheatre -“Summer Nights under the
Stars”; Oak Canyon Nature Center -O.A.K.S. Summer Day Camp; Fourth of July Celebration; and the Central
and South Neighborhood Council meeting dates.
Commissioner Brennan requested information on what takes place at the District Neighborhood Council
meetings. Lynn Smith stated there are four districts in Anaheim where residents discuss important issues with
City staff in each neighborhood district.
Vice Chair Manes questioned if the O.A.K.S. Summer Day Camp is a City revenue producer. Lynn Smith stated
the fees collected pays for the cost of the program to be run.
Chairman Crawford questioned if the decrease in contract classes is due to outside providers not holding classes.
Lynn Smith stated the decrease is mainly due to limited scholarship funding. Lynn Smith stated Scholarship
funding comes throughthe Anaheim Community Foundation(ACF).When donations are made to Helping Hands
through the Anaheim utility bill, donations go to the ACF and scholarship funding. Commission Brennan
questioned if the request for Helping Hands donations is available to those who make payments online. Lynn
Smith will look into it and stated donations can be made directly on the ACF website. Commissioner Brennan
questioned if large groups, such as Disney,donate money towards the Scholarships program. Lynn Smith stated
large groups do not donate funds directly to scholarship funding.

Recreation and Human Services Park Ranger Report–June/July–Lynn Smith presented the report.
C.
Parks Capital Project ProgressReport–Pamela Galera and JJ Jimenez presented the report and provided
updates on the following projects:
Anaheim Outdoors Connectivity Plan –Staff is currently reviewing the draft document of the citywide Master
Plan of trails and walkways connecting Platinum Triangle and ARTIC to Downtown Anaheim, Canyon
Business Park and the Anaheim Resort area. Community meetings will be held in September. The draft
document is scheduled to be presented to City Council for approval in November.
Paul ReverePark –There is CDBG funding to develop a pocket park in the Guinida Lane neighborhood next
to Paul Revere Elementaryand city staff will be applying for additional grant funding through the State of
California, Land and Water Conservation program.
Palm Lane Playground –The project is moving along and is anticipated to be completed by fall.
Schweitzer Park –The project is moving along and is anticipated to be completed by fall.
Pamela Galera report city staff will be applying for awards for projects through the American Society of
Landscape Architects.
Commissioner Brennan questioned if City staff will be applying for more grant funding. Pamela Galera stated
staff will be applying for additional grant funding through the Urban Greening project grants this fall.
Vice Chair Manes questioned what public land will be used for. Larry Pasco stated the possibility of developing
smaller parks on city-owned property in the future.

Senior Citizen Sub-Committee Report–
NEW BUSINESS
A.Role of Senior Citizens Sub-Committee –Lynn Smith presented the Ordinance regarding the repealing the Senior
Citizen Commission and amending the Parks & Recreation Commission to include a Senior Citizen Advisory
Subcommittee. This item will be postponed for further discussionat the next Parks & Recreation Commission
meeting scheduled for September 26, 2012.
B.Miraloma Park Naming –Larry Pasco introduced JJ Jimenez, Planner, of Community Services Department, Parks
.JJ Jimenez presented the Master Plan for the park and community center and requested the
Division
Commissioners to concur with the naming of Miraloma Park and Community Center. Chairman made a
motion to concur and name “Miraloma Park and Community Center”. Commissioners concurred. Motion
passed.
INFORMATIONAL ITEMS–
Vice Chair Manes announcedthe following:
Community Garden openings in East Anaheim and at Ponderosa Park.
Seniors Dance will be held on August 24.

Movies at the Park will be held on August 24.

Commissioner Brennan announced that Servite High Schoolstudents are available to volunteer and help with City
events or programs.
