Sister City 2012/10/22CITY OF ANAHEIM SISTER CITY COMMISSION MINUTES October 22, 2012 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Anthony Al-Jamie, Cynthia Coad, James Dinwiddie, Ann Gallagher, Russell Lahodny, Laurie Leonard, Linda Newby, John Nguyen, Pat Pina COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Paine, Anna Piercy, Jennifer Vaughn STAFF PRESENT: Office GUESTS PRESENT: None Agenda Posting: A complete copy of the Anaheim Sister City Commission Agenda was posted at 3:30 p.m. on October 19, 2012 at Anaheim City Hall. Public Input: Chairman Nguyen explained that members of the public are invited to address the Anaheim Sister City Commission and will be called upon under Agenda Item No. VI. Public Comment. I.CALL TO ORDER The meeting of the Anaheim Sister City Commission (ASCC) was called to order at 4:06 p.m. on Monday, October 22 th City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd., 7 Floor, Anaheim, California. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION: Commissioner Newby offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Gallagher AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 9-0; Absent: Paine, Piercy, Vaughn) that the Anaheim Sister City Commission does hereby approve the minutes. III. Commissioner Leonard walked everyone through her new multi-page Report and explained that the first sheet is a summary of all of the separate ongoing events and projects. There is an additional page with a financial reconciliation for each of the following events: The 2012 Kaiser Foundation Grant Fund, the 2012 Sister City Trip to Vitoria Gasteiz, Spain, the 2012 Mito Anaheim Sister City Commission October 22, 2012 Page 2 Inbound Exchange Program, and the 2012 Anaheim Sister City Spanish Wine Tasting Fundraiser Event. The current account balance is $21,969.65 and the summary report is as follows: GRANT/EVENTS INCOME EXPENSE PROFIT/LOSS TOTAL OPENING BALANCE $9,196.52 2012 Kaiser Foundation Grant Fund $11,350.00 $0.00 $11,350.00 2012 Sister City Trip to Vitoria Gasteiz, Spain $39,300.00 $43,224.59 <$3,924.59> 2012 Mito Inbound Exchange Program $8,617.90 $4,566.26 $4,056.64 2012 Anaheim Sister City Spanish Wine Tasting $4.360.00 $3,068.93 $1,291.07 TOTAL CURRENT ACCOUNT BALANCE: $21,969.65 MOTION: Commissioner Vaughn offered a Motion, seconded by Commissioner Pina AND MOTION CARRIED (Vote: 9- Piercy, Vaughn) that the Anaheim Sister City Commission does hereby approve IV. MITO DELEGATION VISIT 10/29/12 Chairman Nguyen announced that the updated itinerary for the upcoming Mito Delegation visit includes the following: The delegation will be arriving at LAX on October 28, they will go directly the J. Paul Getty Museum for a tour and then they will make their way back to the Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort on Harbor Blvd. in the evening. The ASCC will have gift baskets for each individual waiting for them in their rooms. On October 29 the delegation will go to Disneyland for the day, then to California Adventure Theme Park in the evening to see the World of Color show. On the morning of October 30, the schedule for the delegation will include tours of Western High School, the Tiger Woods Learning Center, and a tour of Extron Electronics. Lunch will be at Umami Burger followed by tours of City Hall and Council Chambers, then a meeting with Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait in his office. Further they will tour Anaheim Fire Station #1, the Anaheim Police Department and Angel Stadium. Lastly, they will have dinner at the Diamond Club at Angel Stadium. The evening will conclude with a song and dance routine performed by the Mito Delegation. Anaheim Sister City Commission October 22, 2012 Page 3 V. AD HOC SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS The Ad Hoc subcommittees have been specifically working out all of the details (acquiring locations, reservations, meals and gifts) for the Mito Delegation visit at the end of October. VI. PUBLIC COMMENT None. VII. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Chairman Nguyen reported that he received an email from Commissioner Paine inquiring about a letter of interest regarding sending a commission to Pudong, China to formally say that Anaheim is interested in exploring a Friendship/Sister City relationship. Commissioner Newby reported that she will be visiting China in November and she has been working with Commissioner Paine regarding who to contact in Hangzhou and Pudong. Commissioner Newby has since been in contact with the Chinese representatives to relay the idea that Anaheim would like to explore a Friendship City relationship and that she will be there in November as a representative of the commission. She will be taking gifts and meeting with their representatives. Chairman Nguyen suggested that a letter of interest be prepared and signed by Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait to be presented by Commissioner Newby while on her visit to China in November. VIII. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:47 p.m. to November 26, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at the Anaheim City Hall, Conference Room #2.
